Hello, I had troubles with updating my NUC. It had bios version sy0071. After I tried to update without the yellow jumper (every other step fails) it look good, but at the end of te proces I got a message that the update failed. I powered off with te button and after that it only turns on, with only te green led on the mainboard but nothing happens. I don't have a power led or screen. I don't no what to do to solve it.

Hello Molenhuis,
Thank you for posting on the Intel* Community.
Unfortunately, due to this product being discontinued, Intel Customer Service no longer supports inquiries for it, but perhaps fellow community members have the knowledge to jump in and help. You may also find the Discontinued Products website (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/discontinued-products.html) helpful to address your request.
Please keep in mind that this thread will no longer be monitored by Intel. Thank you for your understanding.
Best regards,

'Update failed' - How did it fail? What did it say? Can you repeat and capture a picture of the screen with your phone? At every power off point, are you unplugging the power supply? If not do that too.

Hello, thanks for your reply. I was running bio sy0071. I tried to update to sy0073 on the different ways, but every update failed. So I tried to update without the yellow jumper and it was running well but at the end of the update proces, it came with an error that the update failed. I have forgotten te make a picuture. I powered off the nuc en when I powered on, nothing happened, I heard the fan running. After that, I removed all te memory, ssd etc, without succes. After that I removed also the battery for moren than 8 hours. All the action done without power, but evertything I tried nothing happened. On the board there is a green led en can push the power button, but no blue or orange light, no video, etc. I tried also different usb with the bios but no succes. Before the update the nic was running well.

The green LED is just an indication that the power supply is provided standby power. It is the Blue Power LED that we want to see action on.
Try doing the jumper-based BIOS Recovery operation again. When it completes, if it says it failed, take a picture of the screen and post it here.
BTW, initial test should be,
- Remove memory. Power on. Should see Blue LED flash three times. If it does not, unit has failed (this could be caused by BIOS corruption).
- If it flashes three times, power off, reinstall the memory and power back on. Blue LED should come on solid (no flashes). If it does not come on at all, check for no-press on power button (i.e. check if button mechanism from lid is not pressing the actual button on the board). If it comes on and flashes, it means there's a problem (three flashes, for example, indicating bad memory).

Hoi Scott,
thanks, I removed de memory, power on, but no blue or orange led. I think it is bios corruption. I don't have video and connected the nuc on another keyboard and monitor but no difference.
greetings John

Well, that would do it. If the BIOS and ME firmware end up out of sync, they will not work together and the system will never POST. What is strange is that the ME is always updated first and, if it fails, the remainder of the firmware is simply not installed (so that they stay in sync). I hate to say it, but if this is what happened, there may be no recovery from this situation.

42 to 73 is a pretty big jump. I suggest that you do this using the BIOS Recovery by Security Jumper process. This is documented here: Intel NUC BIOS Update and Recovery Instructions.
Hope this helps,

Hi All,
I Seem to have almost the same behaviour. My perfectly NUC is now a brick aka DEAD.
The last BIOS upgrade to 073 has caused my perfectly running system to lockup. The error while booting hinted to the article for running the BIOS recovery method with the jumper. During the recovery method de Flashing image for Intel Management Engine has failed and afterwards it does nothing. Only fan spin. No lights nothing.
Can you please help me fix this issue? As i'm very disappointed in this BIOS update resulting in my PC is now a brick.
Kind regards,
Dirk

Hi, i got in exactly the same situation wit the same error message after flashing bios v.073. Now the NUC is bricked. I hear only the fan but cannot see anything on monitor. May I know how you fixed this?
I am disapointed that flashing to recommaned bios can lead to bricked NUC. In my life I have flashed counless machines from other Vendors (even not so famous like Intel), but never have such problems. It is shame...
BIOS Recovery by Security Jumper did not help.

Hi Mikeee,
I've recovered the NUC by flashing a binary BIOS file which i've received from Molenhuis.
After the flash the NUC started working again. I've used a 8 pin clamp attached to the BIOS chip.
Battery/Power and all disconnected ofcourse.
If you send me your information, i can help you fix the issue for you if you'd like.
Kind regards,
Dirk

I'm having the exact same problem, NUC6I5SYH (NUC6I5SYB), could you please share the .bin to me as well?
I've got a CH341 (used to recover bios on a GPU a while back)

"Amazing, but there is no PM function here?" Yes, there is a PM function here:
- Click on envelope icon (upper right, near your Avatar)
- Click on Edit icon (upper left near the word "Inbox")
