[NUC6i7KYK] - Can't get no persistence w/dual monitors - all windows move to primary monitor after sleep

My setup is a NUC6i7KYK with 2x16Gb of DDR4 RAM and a V-NAND SSD 850 EVO M.2 from Samsung. I bought two identical 28" 4K UHD ASUS PB287Q monitors and was immediately disappointed I couldn't daisy chain them using the Display Port. My bad, didn't do my research, nothing to do with the NUC.

So I'm running two identical monitors; main monitor connected using the Mini DisplayPort, secondary connected with HDMI.

My issue: Every time the screens wake up from sleep all my open windows on the secondary monitor have moved to the primary one, and I have to re-arrange all my windows all over again.

What I expect to happen: On wake-up I want my monitors to persist my program windows the way I had them arranged before the monitors shut off.

* I'm running Windows 10 v1709 (OS build 16299.125)

* ASUS doesn't offer display drivers for these monitors, they use the Microsoft Generic PnP Monitor drivers.

* The Intel Iris Graphics Control Panel identifies the main (DPLink) monitor as a Digital Display, the second monitor (HDMI) as a Digital Television.

* BIOS/Firmware/drivers all up to date as per Intel Driver & Support Assistant 3.1.0.12

I'm very happy with the Skull Canyon (my first NUC) and I'd be the first to admit this is a minor issue. But it does get old and I hope that one of you guys can help me out. Fingers crossed!

Moebeus: Thank you very much for contacting the Intel® NUC communities. We are sorry to hear the NUC is not working as expected.

Even though you mentioned all the drivers are up to date, in order to try to fix this problem we can test driver 4849:

If the problem persists we can install driver 4877:

Just in case, the latest BIOS version for the Intel® NUC is 0050:

Any further questions, please let me know.

Let me provide a more-generic answer and a few comments...

First, I suggest that you manually download and install all of the latest drivers made available via downloadcenter.intel.com.

Second, just a reminder, you are only going to get 4K@30Hz out of the HDMI connector.

Third, this issue of windows resizing and moving to the top-left corner of the main screen is a known issue without a solution. It is not isolated to Intel Graphics; I am also seeing it happen on NVIDIA graphics-based PCs as well, even if I only have a single display connected (though, I must say, it doesn't seem to occur as often as with Intel graphics).

Finally, I too am frustrated with their decision to not expose multiple DP ports directly. This would avoid probably 90% of the reported issues with Intel graphics. While I do admit that, for most, it would put the onus on the user to get good quality DP-to-HDMI converters, those that have embraced the superior benefits of DP would rejoice! (ok, only a little sarcasm there)...

Actually, you will get mailto:4K@60Hz 4K@60Hz on the HDMI 2.0 port and the MiniDP and the USB-C ports.

I have the same issue with the secondary monitor putting everything on the Primary monitor when I wake from sleep or from a locked system. This is on an HP slim desktop with a Haswell CPU. I think it is the Gfx drivers that are the issue. It may also be an issue with the (2) full size DisplayPort I am using. I finally took one monitor off and now I don't get stuff moving from one to the other (obviously since I now only have 1 display) but I get a USB reset when the system wakes. Does not seem to hurt anything but still annoying.

Thank you for the prompt answer.

My BIOS version is currently 0050 and the HD Graphics driver v4849, both updated using the Driver & Support Assistant.

I'll try manually updating the HD Graphics driver to v4877 as per your suggestion and report back. Thanks!

After close to a week of running v4877 of the HD Graphics driver I'm sorry to say there doesn't seem to be much of a change compared to v4849. I still have the problem where windows move from secondary to primary screen after waking up the monitors.

That being said, I really appreciate the level of service you guys offer, it's refreshingly unique for such a big company, thanks!

Enjoy the holidays,
