When connected through HDMI ports on NUC and Monitor ( both HDMI 2.0's), when the Monitor goes to sleep it can not be reawaken and the speakers start chirping as if you just connected some other device and they do not stop.
The only way to wake the monitor is to switch to another input and revert back to the original HDMI1 or HDMI2 on the monitor.
On the Display ports it seems to work fine.
All Drivers are up to date !!!!
Configuration is
NUC6i7kyk
32Gb of RAM
M.2 - 512 Gb - SSD 960 Pro
Latest Drivers are:
BIOS Version 050
Iris Pro 580 - Driver version (Win 10-64 - 15.46.05.4771 KY download) 22.20.16.4771
LG - LG ultra HD (HDMI)
HDMI 2.0 Firmware version 0x07 0x20
Realtek High Definition Audio - Ver 6.0.1.7982
Is anyone out there having a similar problem. Or is there any suggestions on how to fix this annoying problem.
Thank you

Hello Sasharoo,
Thank you for contacting Intel® technical support. I will be more than happy to help you.
I understand that you are having issues with your Intel® NUC Kit NUC6i7KYK connected via HDMI® to an LG* screen.
It is very possible that a driver update will fix the issue. There is currently a more recent version of the driver for the Intel® Iris™ Pro Graphics 580 controller. However, it will be best if you uninstall and remove the current driver, and then install the latest driver.
Please follow the steps below to uninstall the graphics driver:
- On the keyboard, press WinLogo key + R, then type in devmgmt.msc
- Expand the Display Adapters section.
- Find the Intel Graphics Driver. The driver can also be called the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver (Intel® GMA Driver).
- Right-click the Intel Graphics Driver and select Uninstall.
- Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device.
- Reboot the computer after the uninstall process has finished.
- Download the graphics driver ZIP file: https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27227/a08/win64_154521.4821.zip
- Unzip the file to a designated location or folder.
- Right-click Windows Start icon and open Device Manager.
- Click Yes when prompted for permission from User Account Control.
- Expand the Display adapters section.
- Right-click the Intel® graphics entry and select Update Driver Software.
- Click "Browse my computer for driver software".
- Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
- Click "Have Disk".
- Click "Browse".
- Access the designated location or folder, and access a folder called "Graphics".
- Select the file called "igdlh64" or "igdlh".
- Click Open, then click OK, and finally click Next. Drivers are now being installed.
- Reboot your computer.

Thanks Xavier for the response.
I need to clarify some additional items.
I am running Win 10 Pro - 64bit. Version 1709
The LG Monitor is a 27" - 4 K Monitor (3840 x 2160). It has 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, 1 Display port, 1 Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C port and 2 USB's.
The Intel HDMI 2.0 Firmware upgrade installed with no problem.
Connecting the NUC to another, older Monitor, Dell 24" standard HDMI connection. There is no problem
Connecting the NUC to an external XPS laptop computer with HDMI, it has no problem
Connecting the NUC to the LG with Display port works fine with the occasional shrinking of app windows to about 3" x 3" and stacking them in the upper left corner of the screen.
There are a few other issues that we can address later. The above is the main one.
The issue to me seems to revolve around the "HDMI's 2.0" in my case. I have tried many other things including a discussion with Microsoft, however, nothing has worked so far. I will update all other items tried on the next post.
As per your instructions please correct me if I am wrong but they appear to be for Win 8 - 64 bit. Don't have a pc with Windows 8 to try.
I can follow them, however, things are not in the same place as Win 10 Pro - 64 bit. Therefore can't follow all your instructions step by step.
The files you identified in the Graphics folder:
1 " igdlh64 " is a ".inf " file which allows me the option to open or install with a right click of the mouse, if I hit "open" the left side of the mouse it opens a very lengthy information file. Don't know what would happen if I chose install.
2 " igdlh " is a ".cat " file. When open its a security catalogue
Therefore, I think that we are in 2 different operating systems, things are slightly different.
If I execute the same instructions as in your 1st section to remove the graphics driver.
Then if I download "15.45.21.4821.zip" and use the setup.exe file to run it or use your "igdlh64" with the "install" command, then what is the difference. If I install "iglh64" what happens to the "Display Audio", "Language" and the "X64" Drivers.
I am going to leave this discussion here for today. Address other small issues on another day and post. This is the critical one.
Apologise for being so verbose.
Thank you & regards

Hello Xavier
Just additional information that may be of some help.
I have now been able to connect the NUC to 2 other monitors with HDMI 2.0. The results are the same. When the monitor goes to sleep, the system starts chirping as if some device has been connected ( no device connected) and it does not stop until the monitor is reawaken.
This started to happen when I upgraded the HDMI 2.0 firmware. I was only able to upgrade when I had 2 devices with HDMI 2.0 ( NUC and Monitor).
I feel that in my case regarding the chirping, it's related to the firmware upgrade of the HDMI 2.0
In any case I ran your SSU Utility and I am attaching here for your information and perusal. You may find something in it.
Also I installed the Graphics version you suggested ( 15.45.21.4821), nothing has changed.
Thank you

Hello Sasharoo,
I am sorry to see that you are still having the same issue even after performing a driver update.
After doing an investigation, I found that this is actually a known issue that is currently under discussion, and assisted by a higher level of support.
In order to find a workaround, or to be able to be provided with a proper solution, I recommend you to post your issue in the next thread to get better assistance: https://communities.intel.com/thread/116427 https://communities.intel.com/thread/116427

Hello Xavier
The thread you are pointing me to on your link is about screen flickering. There are about 6 pages of discussion. My problem does not fit into that thread. Did you provide me with the correct link ?
Is the issue with the graphics driver or the HDMI 2.0 port.
Thank you

Let me summarize the known issues and you can see if/where it applies to your situation...
- If the system goes into the sleep state, the monitor will become disconnected and will not reconnect when the system awakes.
- Alternatively, the monitor will reconnect but the user will find that his open windows have been resized and pushed into a corner of the screen.
Unfortunately, I have been hearing about these issues (the first more than the second) literally for years now. They first appeared in the 4th generation NUCs. I thought that they were common to both HDMI and DP ports (I am sure I saw it with DP in 4th generation NUCs), but most folks of late only report the issues happening with HDMI ports. I know that in the 7th generation NUCs, folks are saying that the issue isn't happening on the USB-C connector, which provides a DP output (conversion to HDMI would happen in the adapter being used). Whether the issue is purely in the Intel HD Graphics drivers or could be something in the DP-to-HDMI ICs used in the NUCS obviously is going to depend upon whether the issue is also seen with DP. Of course, this could be a common symptom for different issues in different generations.
For years now, I have been working around this issue by simply not allowing monitor or system sleep. This is obviously not a great solution, but seemingly is all that is available. Unfortunately, because the issue is so longstanding, I do not see this being fixed anytime soon...
Hope this helps,
...S

Hey Scott
I see your reply. My NUC is a sixth gen unit.
Both of your points above apply to my situation. However, the app windows shrinking and stacking on the upper left hand corner only happens sporadically when I am connected to the Display port. I have not noticed that happening on the HDMI connection.
In my case the main issue is with the HDMI 2.0 port on both the NUC and the monitor. Not only does it not waken the Monitor but starts this chirping as if some new hardware has been connected and does not stop.
I have uninstalled and installed the graphics drivers from the NUC link and from the Iris Pro 580 link. I have gone back about 3 or 4 versions and in all cases it continues to behave the same way.
As you mention above I also feel it is to do with the HDMI 2.0 connection. My firmware upgrade installed OK. However, this nonsense started after the upgrade. The issue is with the NUC and not the Monitor as I indicated above. Have tested with 2 other Monitors with HDMI 2.0.
Is it possible to reverse the HDMI 2.0 firmware to the previous version. If so could you tell me how.!!!
I have not tried the USB-C connector. I could try that connection since I have "C" connection on my monitor as well. I have not crossed any other connections as you mention, such as mini DP to HDMI since I have all straight through connections on all ports. I actually chose this 4K monitor because it had all ports to match the specs of the NUC (refer to monitor specs above).
Connecting the NUC to other computers that have a max of 1920 x 1080, it seems to work fine on HDMI or DP.
If it could be of any help I have attached an analysis from your SSU utility above.
Run DxDiag, it all reports OK. I could provide you with that if you wish.
Currently on 15.45.21.4821 Graphics Driver.
I would like to continue to work on this issue with you (Intel). However at this time I have no other ideas to try.
Thanks for the reply

Well, I am not Intel, per se -- at least not any longer; I am retired. I help out here in the communities forums and with issue diagnosis for the NUC development team where I can (though I am not a graphics expert).
As I said, I have been seeing and hearing of these issues since the 4th generation WY NUCs (though the issue back then seemed far simpler). The person interfacing with the graphics team is Chris (cvare); you should direct your diagnostic data to him.

Hi Chris
I have been discussing my issue with various support people at INTEL. Actually Scott Pearson suggested that you would be interested in this issue and the analysis I have ran using SSU and attached above.
Don't know if this will reach you. If not can you tell how to reach you. An e-mail would be great and I will keep posting as I try different things.
So far no solution.
My post is on the Community - Category 4 - NUC6i7KYK - Titled - NUC6i7KYK and LG 27UD88 - 4K Monitor.
Let me know how to make this post reach you
Thank you

Ah yes, this is a pain isn't it. I truly here/feel your frustration Sasharoo. I would be too if I were in your place. As Scott has said, this has been around for some time now.
I use a bunch of different NUCs at my home-so I can try to see issues like these that customer's tell me about-but this is one I've never been able to reproduce.
I agree with Scott, try miniDP and or Type C, but the only way I know for certain how to not make this happen is to have the NUC never sleep, use hibernate instead, or turn it off. I am intrigued on what you mean by "chriping" though.
Check your PMs.

Let me try to explain the "chirping" . When the Monitor enters the power saving mode and goes to sleep (black screen) within 10-20 seconds the chirping starts. What I mean is that it sounds like a USB stick or other hardware has been attached and a sound is made. Except this sound continues to repeat itself as if its stuck on a never ending loop. Wiggle the mouse or hit any key on the keyboard to try to wake up the monitor nothing happens, as if no signal goes to the monitor to wake it up.
On the monitor if I select another port HDMI # 2 or DP and return to HDMI # 1, sometimes the monitor wakes up and returns to normal, "chirping" stops, at other times it does not. Have to hold the NUC power button until it shuts down and restart it again.
I purchased this monitor due to the fact that the ports on the monitor are identical to the ports on the NUC, thought it would be a perfect match.
I use this NUC as a PC for my work, my wife wanted the office cleaned up and did not like the big box. I don't use the NUC as a HTPC, does not mean that I will not in the future. It becomes difficult due to the instability, especially when you are working and have to take a call and the Monitor goes to sleep, loss of work becomes a major pain.
At this time I am using the DP which so far seems to be stable. The only item is that any windows that are open when the monitor goes to sleep will shrink and be placed on the upper left corner of the screen. This is not so bad to live with.
I hope this clarifies the "chirping". Let me know if it does not. I'll try to find a way to describe it differently.
Thanks for your assistance. Let me know what else I can assist with to try to resolve the problem.

Sasharoo,
My issues may or may not be related, but they may give you some ideas.
I had to "rewire" my dual monitors into a different configuration since the HDMI port was causing the issues that Scott Pearson was listing. I have 2 monitors, an HP ZR30w (main monitor in landscape) and another HP ZR24w (as secondary monitor in portrait). Initially the ZR30w was on the miniDP and the ZR24w was on HDMI (converted to DVI) and after sleep (actually only monitors off not processor "sleep") the ZR24w on the HDMI sometimes would not wake, and other times it would delay in wake enough to move any items presented on the ZR24w to the main screen (rearranging windows icons, etc.). Sometimes this rearranging windows/icons would occur if I left the machine idle (don't touch mouse or keyboard) for 1-2 minutes (the monitor sleep was set for 2 hours). This was annoying. Updating drivers, adjusting BIOS, etc. would not stop this problem.
I "rewired" the monitors so I didn't use the HDMI port and hooked up the ZR30w on the USB-C port and moved the ZR24w to the miniDP. This stopped the problems with the monitors not recovering from "monitor off". My screens were working mostly OK except for a subtle problem that showed up. On Windows 10 version 1703, I sporadically (very sporadically) booted the machine with the monitor on the USB-C not functioning at all, and all icons and presentation was on the miniDP monitor as if the monitor on the USB-C port didn't exist. I would touch nothing and I could reboot the machine and all was back to normal (including icons and their positions on the main monitor). More recently, the update of Windows 10 to version 1709 has caused major issues. If the machine boots and I don't log in before the monitors sleep (which is quicker on v1709 when not logged in) the USB-C port monitor (ZR30w) is permanently off. If I walk away and let the monitors sleep (after 2 hours) the same result happens. Moving the mouse and typing keys will not wake the main USB-C port monitor. The miniDP port monitor (ZR24w in portrait) comes on (can see the mouse cursor on it) and sometimes I can blindly log on (login is on main screen which is permanently off) and do a shut down gracefully, and other times Windows is asking a question (which I can't see) and denying login so I have to force power-off the machine and reboot. I think the machine is a wonderful machine (when it doesn't sleep) but the monitor power control on any port other than the miniDP port appears "iffy" at best.
These monitor problems (along with the OS constantly causing issues/changes itself) are getting quite annoying.
My configuration is
NUC6i7kyk
32Gb of RAM
M.2 - 512 Gb - SSD 960 Pro
M.2 - 1TB - SSD Intel 540s
Latest Drivers are:

I have had the same problem with my LG 34UC98 widescreen / Skull NUC6i7KYK.
I also have just inherited the chirping noise as soon as the computer goes into sleep mode.
It has been approx 4 months since I posted issue and went through all process's of uninstalling / installing drivers, Bios etc.. In the end I just gave up! On the off chance I have revisited the support site today and read through all the common threads, obviously there still is no solution!
I will definitely try the miniDP option to bypass using HDMI cable and hope that works.

Another thing you can try, to get rid of the Windows USB plug sound, is to not let the device sleep and use a screensaver. Not optimal, but seems to work.
