Hello,

There are too many ways to update BIOS: power button menu, F7 during boot, F7 in BIOS, etc.

Question 1: Does the result depend on the option used? I mean, if the update competed successfully, does it matter which way was used? Or maybe some updating procedures update BIOS just "partially"?

Question 2: Is it needed to reset to BIOS defaults after update (through F9)? Resetting and restoring values is annoying and the official Intel guide "NUC-BIOS-Update-Readme.pdf" does not require it.

Thank you for pointing out an interesting post. It looks like different methods do the same thing (unless the BIOS is inoperable and one have to use special tricks). So I assume that F7 method is good enough.

Regarding resetting Bios setting to defaults - it remains a mystery.

Hi Peter,

I want to be more specific with the bios setting. I've updated bios many times. Always I'm using Bios Recovery method (by pressing F4 from the Power Button Menu). In the history of my updates, my customized settings have been never changed/affected. So, I thing that in Bios update instruction there is no need to press F9 before update and then to restore your settings because it is not needed.

For your information (and safety), in bios setting, in the upper right corner there is icon of man. Press on this icon, and then click on Manage Profile . You will get an option to save your settings for future restore.

I tried the F4 from the Power Button Menu method and it went smoothly (from 0041 to 0041). I followed your sequence, described in (post 2). However, saving and restoring profile became an "exciting" experience.

I saved current profile before updating BIOS and restored it after several successful booting to Windows. After restoring the NUC did not boot and said "A bootable device has not been detected" (in 4K resolution). After several attempts (with the same result) I went into BIOS and restored defaults (F9). After that I got the same message, but now in some pretty low resolution. Next attempt was successful. Then I tried to restore my settings through profile manager with exactly same result.

By the way, some time ago, I think, after upgrading to 0039, the Alert messages stopped appearing by the NUC logo. Today, at some point they started to appear, but then vanished again. This is weird.
