NUC7i3BNH - Win 10 Update 1803 endless stopcode parade ends up in error : (A7) Me FW Downgrade

Hello all,

my system is:

  • NUC7i3BNH
  • SSD 960 EVO 1TB
  • 2x8 GB RAM Crucial
  • no fancy software, no antivirus from 3rd party supplier

Just a short summary what happens until now:

- Got Win 10 Pro 1709 last year - worked fine for me

- I tried to update to 1803 in May and got an error with my hard drive. There was a new small partition and it says that there was to less space on it for installation.

Because I heard about issues of the new update and several SSD I decided to postpone the update and did a deinstallation of 1803.

- Did an update for all drivers from INtel with Intel driver and support agent -> all drivers seems to be actual now including BIOS

- I tried to install update 1803 because I read that every issue with SSD was solved

Now it started:

Blue screens with several stop codes I never heard before. I did replace graphic driver version 25.20.100.6323 to Microsoft graphic driver.

But now I cannot switch back to actual driver because. I guess it is because now I have an error in TPM module ( can be seen in "Gerätemanager"). System always crashes at the last steps.

The newest message on the screen now is:"(A7) Me FW downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed" when starting PC. I cannot jump into BIOS with F2 because of this error.

What does this error mean?

You can find attached data collected from support tool from Intel (SSU.exe).

I do not know if there is an error in hardware or in software. Maybe someone here can give me a hint what can be checked?

The error could be related to Secure Boot and UEFI. After doing that, please try turning off UEFI and switching to Legacy only or try just turning off Secure Boot, the error should not appear anymore, you should be able to access the BIOS by pressing F2 and the NUC will boot properly to Windows.

 

 

If the problem persists, then case what we can try a BIOS recovery to the latest version 0070, same that you currently have in order to set the BIOS values to defaults:

Regarding the graphics driver, according to the report the current driver installed is version 23.20.16.4944, please un-install that driver from device manager, then reboot the PC and try to install driver version 24.20.100.6286:

If everything works fine after that, then you can keep that driver version installed, otherwise since the NUC works with Intel® hd 620, we can also try driver version 25.20.100.6326:

Hello Alberto,

thank you very much for your fast reply. At the moment the system seems to be working:

- issue "TPM" in device manager: installed

- all actual drivers (incl. graphic 25.20.100.6326) are on the system

- no blue screen for now

How does this happen? Dont know :-). I tried to start program MEMTEST86 to check if there are errors in memory. Therefore I did not start the UEFI but the Legacy boot menu. After that the TPM was installed properly and I was able to reinstall actual graphic driver. Then I started the memory test program.

Great result but it took me days to get this status back. It was really frustrating to spend so much lifetime for a piece of technic just to get it working.

By the way there is no error in memory. And I am not sure if I ever will be able to update WIN10 ... ;-)

Hello,

maybe this info will help other users. At least I was able to upgrade to Win 10 v1803:

After getting an error (blue screen with stopcode WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR) again I switched off Bluetooth which was used for a "couch potato" wireless keyboard. I did a restart and tried to update. After second try it was installed successfully.
