Hi,
I made yesterday the BIOS update from version 0049 (24.07.2017) to version 0066 (24.07.2018). After the update the windows10 can start normally but it only can work for about 10 to 60 seconds. Then the monitor always get suddently no signal any more. The number lock of the keyboard does not react too.
There is no problem with the HDMI cabel and monitor.
Please help how can I fix the problem.
------------------
- I made a clean new install of windows. After the successful installation the same problem comes up again.
- The graphics driver is clearly the problem. As soon as I installed the intel graphics dirver the screen goes black. I tried the driver Version: 24.20.100.6194 and 24.20.100.6025.

I do not know how many intermediate stages of BIOS updates there were but possibly going up in just one step was too much. Why don't you roll back to where you started from and update in individual stages. At worst you will waste a bit of time but it may work.
EDIT: I have just found out there are eleven stages. I do think that would be too many to update in one go, but I defer to my more learned posters.

Hi JNRW,
Thank you. I tried to roll back to the old versions. Rolling back to version older than 0054 is no longer possible. Rolling back to version 0054/0057/0060 ect cause the same problem.

That's very disappointing. I thought I had hit on something useful. I am sure, however, that someone will help you. Pity that it is the weekend, though. Good luck!

I don't know what method was used by you to update bios. My recommendation in your case is update bios using bios recovery method. Here you have the detailed procedure how to do this:
The easiest is to recover bios from Power Button Menu:
- Prepare USB stick fully formatted to FAT32 (disable quick format option during format). Format your USB on Windows machine (rather than Linux or MAC). Save the Bios file BN0066.bio (https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28013/BIOS-Update-BNKBL357-86A-?product=95066 Download BIOS Update [BNKBL357.86A] ) on this stick and insert it into USB slot (NUC shall be OFF).
- Press Power Button for about 3 seconds. You should release the Power Button soon as the power led changes color from blue to amber. Alternately, the system will emit three short beeps from the PC speaker or headphones, if connected, then stop. If you see the LED color change or you hear the beeps, release the Power Button - NUC shall reboot into Power Button Menu.
- Press F4 and the recovery shall start (it can take up to 30 seconds for messages to appear on the screen).
- When the recovery finishes, pull out the power cord.
- Replace the power cord and press Power Button to switch the computer to ON.
- Enter Bios setting by pressing F2 during boot process.
- Press F9(followed by "Y"), to set Bios to default settings. Press F10 (followed by "Y"), to save the settings and exit to O.S. Let the NUC fully reboot.
- If before update, you have customized bios settings, you can enter again to Bios setting to change the necessary settings.
Note:
If for some reason you have difficulty to boot into Power Button Menu, you shall recover your Bios using Security Jumper method https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005532/mini-pcs.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005532/mini-pcs.html

Hi lw1948,
I made the BIOS update exactly as you mentioned. But it did not work. I get to the step if I don't access the internet and don't make any driver update, the computer will work fine. But it is still difficult for me to find out the exact problem.

From your post, I've understand that you have successfully updated bios to the last version, using recovery method. However, when you are connected to internet, your display goes blank. In this case I suggest to take the following steps:
1. Download all latest drivers (if you can use your NUC, use for this other computer). Instead of downloading all drivers signed with word "latest", you may download Driver bundle zip and later unzip it in your NUC. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/95066/Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC7i3BNH Downloads for Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i3BNH
2. Disconnect your NUC from internet and save the downloaded drivers in your NUC.
3. Install each driver manually. Start with the chipset driver, Management Engine driver, Graphic driver. Restart your NUC and install all remaining drivers. The sequence of installation is not important. You may reboot your NUC only once more, after the last driver is installed.
4. Reconnect internet connection to your NUC and check if there are other updates for Windows.

1. I'm not aware about specific problems with Graphic Driver, however if it is causing you problem, uninstall it, at least in first step of debugging. Uninstall it from the Device Manager, using "Delete" option
2. Is your Windows updated with the latest build? If not, update Windows first.
3. After Windows update, check in Device Manager, Graphic driver version.

Hi Leon,
windows and all other drivers are updated. If I update the Graphics Driver after that the display gets black (no signal). If I turn it back to microft basic display adapter, it works, of course with very limted display quality :-(

Hello YongtaoLi
This thread was opened by ikule , for his NUC. Even if your problem is similar, I suggest that you will open a separate thread and describe it.

Are you using the driver from the NUC drivers page and NOT the generic GFx driver from the Intel site? The NUC specific driver should work better than the generic package.

Hello ikule ,
There is some misunderstanding in our communication. I'll try again. Before you are updating your graphic driver some minimum precondition should be implemented:
1. Your Window should be updated to the last version 1803.
2. You should install Intel chipset driver for your NUC: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26801/Intel-Chipset-Device-Software-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC7i3BN-NUC7i5BN-and-NUC7i7BN?product=95066 Download Intel® Chipset Device Software for Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i3BN, NUC7i5BN, and NUC7i7BN
4. You should install Management Engine Driver: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27608/NUCs-Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC7i3BN-NUC7i5BN-NUC7i7BN?product=95066 Download Intel® Management Engine Consumer Driver for Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i3BN, NUC7i5BN, NUC7i7BN
Now when you meet the above mentioned conditions, continue:
1. From the Hardware Manager uninstall the driver (check the "delete" option). You will be asked to reboot the NUC. After reboot, you will see Microsoft Basic Graphic Driver.
2. Right click on the Microsoft Graphic Driver and click "Update driver". Let Windows search on internet for the best driver.
3. Windows should download the Graphic Driver and install it. You will be asked to reboot your NUC.
4. After reboot you should see Intel Graphic Driver in Hardware Manager.

Hi Leon,
after login I was forced to update my first name and last name. After that my first name+last name (Yongtao Li) are showed instead of my user name (ikule).
There is some misunderstanding in our communication. I'll try again. Before you are updating your graphic driver some minimum precondition should be implemented:
1. Your Window should be updated to the last version 1803. Yes, 1803 was updated.
2. You should install Intel chipset driver for your NUC: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26801/Intel-Chipset-Device-Software-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC7i3BN-NUC7i5BN-and-NUC7i7BN%3Fproduct%3D95066 Download Intel® Chipset Device Software for Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i3BN, NUC7i5BN, and NUC7i7BN
Yes, the chipset driver was installed.
4. You should install Management Engine Driver: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27608/NUCs-Intel-Management-Engine-Consumer-Driver-for-Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC7i3BN-NUC7i5BN-NUC7i7BN%3Fproduct%3D95066 Download Intel® Management Engine Consumer Driver for Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i3BN, NUC7i5BN, NUC7i7BN
Yes, the management engine driver was installed. I installed all the newest drivers except the Graphics Driver manually and double checked it with the Intel Driver and Support Assistant.
I did it exactly as mentioned. As soon as the Graphics Driver is installed the monitor gets black (no signal). I tried both version (24.20.100.6194 and 24.20.100.6025) manually too. But no one works :-(

Hi Yongtao Li,
That is very strange. You are the first one I've seen on this forum with such phenomena.
In order to have better picture of your system please please attach to your post a .txt file the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows- System Support Utility will generate. To attach this file click on "Attach" in the bottom right corner.

Regarding your login question, your user name (ikule) is what other people will see; only forum administrators - and yourself, of course - will be able to see your full name.

Hi Yongtao Li,
After short review of the file you have generated, I suspect that your problem is as result of your booting mode. From the report I can see that your bios works in: BIOS Mode:"Legacy" . This may be as result that you have disabled the UEFI mode in bios and/or have installed your Windows in legacy mode instead of UEFI mode. In the correct installation/working mode this line should read: BIOS Mode:"UEFI"
Please make shure that UEFI boot mode in bios is enabled and reinstall Windows according to the following tutorial: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-clean-install-windows-10-a.html Windows 10 Help Forums . Skip on para.12 and go directly to para.13.
The Windows installation media (if you don't have one yet), you can prepare using Media Creation Tool from Microsoft: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 Download Windows 10

Hi Leon,
Thank you very much. It's the solution. I deactivated the Legacy boot modus in BIOS and reinstalled the windows. Now the windows works. You are the best.
