NUC7i3BNH stops working completely after BIOS update 0046

Jump to solution

Hi,

i own a NUC7i3BNH and started a BIOS update from 0036 to 0046 today (see [1] below for download link). As a linux-user I chose the F7 method. So I copied the BIO file to an usb stick and updated with F7 as I did last time. The update succeeded from what was written on the screen. But after the progress finished the system powered off and it is not possible to power it back on.

The system is not reacting on the power button (not with a short press, not with a 3 second-press). No sounds/beeps can be heard with plugged headphones. No lights are flashing. It looks like the system does not have power at all. But there is one exception: There is a green standby-LED on the mainboard which is always on when power cord is plugged. I also checked the power supply which seems to be okay.

Of course I unplugged the power cord several times and waited minutes before going on. I also removed the "secure bios" jumper and wanted to do the "recovery bios"-process. No luck.

At the moment I cannot see any life activities except the green standby-LED. Does anyone have a hint to that? What happened here? What can I do? I am afraid I will never do any updates in the future anymore if I cannot get this solved.

Greetings from germany!

Hello all,

Thank you for contacting the Intel community.

I'm sorry for the issue you all have experienced when updating the BIOS, in this case, if trying to update the BIOS caused this problem I suggest you to get a replacement for the unit at the following link:

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html# @5 http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/contact-support.html# @5

You can do either and online service request or live chat.

If you receive a replacement and you want to try to update the BIOS again I suggest you to use the http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/000005532.html BIOS recovery method to update the BIOS.

Best regards,

I experienced the exact same thing when trying to update to BIOS 46 using the .bio file method.

I had to RMA my unit. When I received my new unit, I chose the Windows utility to update my BIOS with successful results.

Exact same thing happened to me last night on a NUC7i7BNH. Though I used the windows utility and it looked like it finished successfully and powered down then I could not power it back up. RMA'd today to get it replaced. Very disappointing.

Does one of you remember which was the last BIOS version running on your system where you made the update from? I wonder if it was related to the big step from 0036 to 0046 that made the problem occure.

But anyway I have to prepare an RMA then.

Thanks for your response.

So I got my RMA unit. Before I installed the OS I updated the bios. Was very worried it would fail again, but it did update by going into the bios and using the F7 option. Then I installed the OS and have updated all drivers and I am good to go. I guess I just got a bad unit.

same problem here after update to version 46. rolled back to 45, still hard to startup the system. I removed the yellow jumper than, following the onscreen instuctions cleared the mos/bios data. do not forget to put back the jumper. now is workink just fine
