The installation is terminated in the beginning with error message "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software." Installation of of the previous available version 22.214.171.12401 works.
Version 126.96.36.19944 is included in the driver package for NUC7i3DNBE.

Just checked the version, it is 1709 (16299.125). The installation media was fairly recently created with Media Creation tool. If I remember correctly the installation build is dated ~September 2017 so though 1709 it is quite old.
This is a fresh installation of Windows 10 Pro with no internet connection yet so it does not have any updates. I'll run the updates and report back if that made a difference.
I have no problems running with the previous version of the driver, this thread was more a heads up for Intel and others who might run into the same issue. Yesterday we installed NUC7i3BNH and had no problems with the 188.8.131.5244 driver following the same process (same installation media, no updates before driver installation).
