NUC7i5BNK screen flickering problem

Hi, I have the same problem as reported by many in the previous threads on the subject although it's not so much a flash, but more of a flicker. Parts of the screen are fine while others kinda look "corrupt", maybe go green or pink for just a few milliseconds. I'm on 4K and screen flickers in many of the times when there are big "changes" in whatever's displayed. Fast scrolling through text, opening the Start menu, switching tabs in the browser and setting Youtube to full screen - these are just some of the times when the problem is prominent.

I have had this NUC for 9 months and this has never happened before. It only started this week, and I've made no recent changes to the system, nor installed anything.

I updated my BIOS and graphics driver to the latest versions, but to no avail. The problem persists. I even tried a different HDMI cable.

I've attached my Intel System Support Utility summary. Hopefully someone here can help.

Thanks,

Asaf.

What has likely happened is Windows Update has installed a newer version of the Intel HD Graphics driver package - one that is causing problems with your monitor/TV.

  1. This can be the result of an incompatibility between the BIOS and this driver version. If you are not running on the very latest BIOS, you should upgrade to it and then see if the flickering persists.
  2. If the flickering persists, the next thing to try is downloading and installing the latest version of the driver that is available in the Intel Download Center. Here is a link to this version: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26947/NUCs-Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-for-Int... Download Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows® 10* for Intel® NUC Kit NUC7i# BN.
  3. If the flickering still persists - and please tell us here if this is the case - then you should download and reinstall the version if the driver that you were running previously. Links to older versions are listed on the download page linked above.

I hope this helps,

I do run the latest BIOS, and I did download the latest graphics driver. However, it wasn't from the link you provided. Now after I did use your link, I think the flickering stopped. I'll update here if the problem reoccurs.

Amazing, thanks so much, N. Scott!

Unfortunately, I am having a similar problem with the most updated BIOS and graphics drivers. Is there anything else you can suggest? My problem is just that the screen goes to black for a second or two. This happens frequently, but it is the only graphics issue. No part of the screen is corrupt or appears in the wrong color; the whole screen just goes to black and then recovers quickly.

I've attached my own "detailed system report."

Thank you,

SB

Hello sb242349,

Thank you for joining this Intel Community.

I understand that your display experiences flickering issues frequently. I would like to assist you.

I would like to know if this screen flickering occurs when you open a specific application or watch high quality videos in YouTube*. This will help us address your issue better.

In addition, you can try installing the latest graphics driver for your unit's graphics controller Intel® Iris® Plus Graphics 650, which fixes graphics anomalies and adds WebGL* improvements in the Chrome* web browser.

Hello sb242349,

Were you able to install the latest graphics driver for your graphics controller?

We will be glad to continue assisting you If screen flickering still occurs.

Hi Support

I have 15 of the NUC7i5BNK units on a company network. 6 of them have started having intermittant screen flashing issues on both the HDMI port and the USB-c Port.

Both screens attached are 1080@60Hz.

I have tried Installing the latest BIOS Updates and the latest Graphics card firmware i can find.

Please can you confirm the best drivers to be using?

The screen just turns off for around a second and then come back on again randomly.

We have tried replacing screens and HDMI / USB C Cables.

Many thanks

Here it is April 2021 and the NUC is still flickering on many brands of large screen TVs. I find it is mostly with internet streaming. I have tried every single one of these final solutions and none have fixed the problem. Sad that I am finally going to give up on my NUC because I have loved using it but the flickering has finally driven me crazy and I'm not spending a $1000 on their newest model to see if they've solved the problem.

Now to look for a replacement unit.

I saved myself a lot of money. All these years everyone , and me were looking for a problem with their NUC's when it was Chrome all along. I always wondered why I never had problems with movies playing off my hard drive and it was only internet and streaming video or Youtube. I switched to Firefox and the flickering stopped instantly. All those scores of fixes over the years have been a waste of everybody's time. It's Google's fault.
