NUC7i7BNH: no thunderbolt device / no output to screen over USB-C

Hello everybody

my configuration:

  • NUC7i7BNH - all updates installed
  • Windows 10 - all updates installed
  • Monitor: Dell 2715H
  • different USB-C to Mini Displayport adapter

My problem: I cannot see any thunderbolt controller (see attachment) and I cannot get my monitor working over thunderbolt / USB-C.

I read different threads in this forum and the problem is not unsual on older NUCs.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in adavance

Sebastian

Hello timbajr,

Thank you for contacting Intel Communities.

Can you please provide the following information to better assist you?
  • Intel® NUC BIOS version:
  • The model/part number of the USB-C to mDP adapter:
  • The specific model number of the monitor as I found the following: U2715H, S2715H, UZU2715H, E2715H.
  • Do you get any video if you get to the BIOS?
  • Have you tried the HDMI video output?
I hope to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,

JC

Hi timbajr,

Thank you for the information.

Can you please test any of the adapters (Cables/Dongles) found in http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/intel-nuc-kits/000023164.html this list?

Have you tested any other display?

If none of these suggestions work, then I would recommend contacting your system vendor to look for any possible warranty options.

Best Regards,

JC

Hi JC

I thought the dongle mentioned in the attachment is that one: https://www.amazon.de/Chenyang-m%C3%A4nnlich-DisplayPort-Monitor-Chrombook/dp/B06XTBT15T/ref=sr_1_1?... https://www.amazon.de/Chenyang-m%C3%A4nnlich-DisplayPort-Monitor-Chrombook/dp/B06XTBT15T/ref=sr_1_1?...… Isn't it? It's difficult to purchase one of the suggested cables / dongles here in Switzerland.

No I don't own an other displays at home, therefore I cannot test it.

How can I test if the controller is working and it's only a problem of the cable / dongle? Is there any possibility?

Best Regards

Sebastian

Hi timbajr,

Seems to me that this is a compatibility issue with the adapter being used. At this stage, the only way is to use a different adapter/monitor.

Best Regards,

Hello JC

thanks for your assistance. It was indeed a compability issue. I have bought a StarTech USB-C to DP Adapter and it is working now.

From a consumer point of view it's a nightmare if some adapters work and others don't, although they are all USB-C or thunderbolt compliant.

Best Regards,

Sebastian
