NUC8I3BEH does not boot by itself

Hi, be patient with me :-), please, I'm not an english native speaker ad I'm a NUC newbie...

In January I was able to set up a beautiful NUC8I3BEH, with Ubuntu

Schermata 2020-09-20 alle 15.31.27.png

It's used as PLEX Server and ROON Server, nothing more, and everything was perfect, until I probably did something wrong... Now, when the system has to reboot, it doesn't. It shows the INTEL NUC black screen and nothing more.

In order to restart the system I have to press the power button, and  Shift, in order to obtain the GRUB menu and use the advanced options for Ubuntu. At this point I can boot the system and everything works fine.

Is it a NUC problem or I have to check something into the Linux OS?  I already performed a boot-repair from Ubuntu, but nothing has changed, so, it could be something wrong in BIOS (NUC)?

Thank you.

Hello Supertropix,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

I was checking your case and I understand that we are experiencing a boot situation with your NUC.

To better assist you I would appreciate if you could provide the following information:

  • While booting, Do you see any behavior of the power LED on the chassis? If so, please descrip the blinking code.
  •  Where any changes made prior to this behavior?
  • What is the current BIOS version installed?

Intel does not test and validate Intel® NUC on Linux, however we know that a lot of NUC owners are using it successfully on many different Linux distros.

Intel suggests you check your Linux distro's website and forums at Linux* Operating System Support for peer assistance with this issue.

Hi, sorry for the delay, very busy at work...

"While booting, Do you see any behavior of the power LED on the chassis? If so, please descrip the blinking code." = Solid Blue

"Where any changes made prior to this behavior?" = Yes, in Ubuntu, but I can't remember the details

"What is the current BIOS version installed?" = I have to find out

On AskUbuntu forum they gave the tip to wait, for a new kernel upgrade and then look again into the problem.

Do you think should be a Bios issue? Is there any log that I can download?

Thanks again.

Hello Supertopix,

Thank you so much for the update.

  • Were you able to confirm the BIOS version of the NUC?
  • The changes that you performed were in BIOS?

Based on the light behavior of the NUC, it indicates that no component is causing this behavior. That makes me consider that this could be directly related to the operating system installed in the device.

Based on the Blink Codes and Beep Codes for Intel® NUC we can determine what could be possibly causing the problem.

As previously stated, the operating system that is currently installed is not validated in this  Intel® NUC. However, based on the customer reports the unit can work fine with several Linux distros.

I would strongly recommend to check your Linux distro's website and forums at Linux* Operating System Support for assistance with this issue and further recommendations.

The changes were not in BIOS.

So I’m gonna find a solution in Askubuntu forum.

Thanks.
