NUC8i3CYSM no display

I have this mini PC less than 2 years, not used very often. I think it may have had an automatic update, when I start it, it does not have output to the display, I can see Hard disk LED blinking for long long time. It happened before that it took long long time that I can see the display, but this time I do not see any thing on monitor forever, no BIOS Screen, no Wndows screen. Monitor does not detects any video signal.  Monitor has been checked out, no problem.

I have tried

power cycle the PC,

Change HDMI cable

Try different HDMI port.

I am guessing PC is still working, but I have no way to tell if I can not have any video output.

I purchased it because of it size. But I think I spend more time to fight trouble on it than I use it for real work.

Ho Max,

1. Power LED blinking (three blinks), may also signal that memory module has failed. You may try to power ON your NUC with one memory module only at time. In bottom and upper slot. See the description Blink Codes and Beep Codes for Intel® NUC.

2. If you suspect that the BIOS update failed, you may try BIOS Recovery with the Yellow Secure Jumper Removed:

2. 1. Prepare USB stick fully formatted to FAT32 . Format your USB with Quick Format option unchecked. Do not format your USB in MAC (OS) or Linux machine. Use Windows. Download the CY0052.bio file. Copy the CY0052.bio file to the root of this USB.
2.2. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the bottom panel from your NUC.
2.3. Remove the Yellow Bios Security Jumper. (page 42 in Technical Product Specification)
2.4. Insert the USB with the CY0052.bio file into rear USB slot.
2.5. Reconnect the power adapter and power ON the NUC. Wait 30 sec - 2min. The Recovery process will start automatically and will end after 2 -5 minutes.
2.6. When bios recovery is completed, press and hold the Power Button to switch the power OFF, remove the power adapter and replace the Security Jumper (pins 1-2) . Reinstall the bottom panel.

3. Power your NUC ON.
4 Enter Bios setting by pressing F2 during boot process.
5. Press F9(followed by "Y"), to set Bios to default settings. Press F10 (followed by "Y"), to save the settings and exit to O.S. Let the NUC fully reboot.

Hope this will help

Leon

1. Disconnect the Power Adapter and remove the NUC bottom cover (unscrew the for screws in the NUC's leg).

2. Disconnect the connector of the CMOS battery (item "Q", fig. 2, page 16 in the Technical Product Specification).

3. Reconnect the battery and the power cable after 15 minutes.

4. Power On and check if you can see the Intel Logo.

Leon,

Thanks for the pointer to the product spec.

Following your instruction, there was still no output on monitor after applying power afterwards. I saw the power LED is on. When I pushed power button, the power LED started blinking. From the spec, it might mean BIOS update from the spec. During this time, if I typed any key on keyboard the blinking stops, power LED becomes on. If I pushed the power button again, power LED started blink again.

Thanks,

Max

Hello Leon,

Yesterday, I let the PC in that state (LED blinking). Today I power cycle the box, the monitor start working as normal!

I really appreciate all your instructions, I will save them for future use.

I'm in the exact same situation with my NUC8i3CYSM, which is less than two years old.  The power LED on the mainboard is glowing steady, but no video is driven from either HDMI port, and the power button has no effect.  I've tried two NUC power adapters and two different monitors via two different HDMI cables.  I have exhausted all troubleshooting steps to no avail.  The NUC had its BIOS updated a couple weeks ago, and all seemed fine after the update.  BIOS recovery has been attempted to no avail.  Other than the steadily glowing power LED, there is no sign of life.

In my case, I suspect the some update took extremely long. Leave it in that state as long as it does, then power cycle it to see it even comes back. I think it back it happened to me in the past too. It is SO frustrating there is nothing displayed during the upgrade.
