New Nuc 11 i5 4k issues.

For some strange reason i loose all 4k compatibility when i update drivers to newer drivers for iris xe. Its work fine on driver 27.20.100.8935 but its more than 2 years old driver if i update them by windows update or by intel website i loose 4k and its only give 1080p i am so lost....

Tried fully uninstall the drivers remove any trace reboot and do a full fresh install to no avail.

Is it affecting all connectors or just one of them? Does the device manager show any error/warning next to your Display Adapter?

I only tested the display port to be truthful.

No error or warning sign on the display adaptor.

Its like as soon as i update the driver to any newer version of the driver i loose 4k resolution and 120 refresh rate.

Its work perfectly fine with the original driver i mentioned so i am puzzled.

The hdmi is only 2.0 so won't support 4k 120 hz so its a no go and i need all my type c ports for others stuff so can't use them for display so i am stuck with this old driver i guess.

In that case, please answer these questions to have a better perspective of this issue and try the following steps: 

 

  1. Is it Desktop PC or a Laptop? 
  2. What is the video port you are using (Displayport 1.2, for example)? 
  3. How many displays do you have connected? 
  4. Have you tried a clean installation of your graphics drivers, using the latest graphics driverNote: Make sure to check you have all the Windows updates before doing the driver installation. 
  5. Run this utility and attach the report: 

Intel® System Support Utility for Windows. 

Note: Make sure to mark the box that says "everything" before pressing the Scan button. After that, click on "Next>" and select "Save" and then, attach the .txt file.

Hello,

I am not at home for the last step but i can respond to the questions.

1 its a intel nuc 11 NUC11PAHi5 mini pc with a 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-1135G7 Processor (so its made by intel and came in an Intel box)

2 display port 1.4a (i get 4k 120hz on the driver the pc came with just not when i update drivers)

3 only one.

4 i did try to uninstall driver delete them completely and download latest one from intel website and do a full installation but the result is the same its become 1080p at 60 hz when i do that.

I will do last step when i get home and come back post result.

Hello,

 

Here the system support utility log attached as .txt files 

 

The GPU drivers is the only version that give me 4k 120hz i tried like explained to uninstall and reinstall drivers ( clean install after rebooting ect ) and newer driver just kill my 4k 120hz support

Thank you for all the information provided. I would like t make sure that we are testing the driver in the correct way, please let's do the following:


1.-Please do a clean installation of driver version 31.0.101.3222, this version is exclusively optimized for your Intel® NUC 11 Performance kit – NUC11PAHi5 and it is the latest available.


2.-If the issue persists, please try or confirm if you already tried version 31.0.101.4032, however, this is a generic version developed for different system configurations so if the issue continues, please roll back to version 31.0.101.3222 or 27.20.100.89.35.


3.-If the issue is not resolved after trying the above drivers, please share some screenshots or a short video showing where the 4K option is disappearing on your system and whether this is only happening for a specific application.


4.-Also, let us know if you are using any type of adapter or if the connection is directly DP to DP port.

Hello,

 

I followed instructions and end result is exactly the same sadly. 

As soon as i did the clean install and rebooted 4k 120hz option was gone ( and as explained its work flawlessly on the 27.20.100.89.35 )

There is no difference using both the new drivers recommended.

 

I attached screenshot of the System display setting that show the issue. 

 

I am using the DP port with an 8k60/4k120 certified DP to HDMI port cable ( The brand is CableMatters )  plug into my Hisense U8H in a 2.1 hdmi port ( no display port as its a tv. ) 

 

Following this when i saw it today i purchased a CableMatters certificed 8k60/4k120 Thunderbolt to HDMI cable and magically now i have 4k120 hz no problem.

 

So my guess is the DP port get broken for 4k120 when updating to the new drivers. 

Luckily i got a thunderbolt Hub with a bunch of Thunderbolt and normal USB A 3.0 port on it so i can sacrifice one of my two thunderbolt port for my display.

 

As this platform only has a 2.0B normal HDMI port using this was a no go for my need.

 

Anyway if they could fix this issue its be nice otherwise at least i got a work around with the thunderbolt port.

PS : i also attached a picture of it working fine using latest drivers and thunderbolt port instead of DP.

Happy to help.

I don't expect many will have this problem as my usage case is quite unique (not many need those small nuc to run 4k 120hz).

My usage case is for cloud gaming at 4k 120hz with AV1 decoding support and this nuc is perfect for it.

Thank you for your patience. After checking this issue, the problem seems to be related to bandwidth. The maximum effective bandwidth that you can get from the DisplayPort 1.4 port will be 29.92 Gbps and in order for you to be able to get 4K120Hz resolution you will need 33.97 Gbps bandwidth (Check the image attached). This configuration makes sense that it is working when you are using the Thunderbolt ports since these allow for 34.56 Gbps maximum effective bandwidth.

Hello,

Well 4k 120hz worked perfectly well with the other drivers and pictures quality is identical as what i have using the thunderbolt port.

And my research point out to display port able to do 4k.120hz as well so its still make no sense..

I had full 4k 120 hz support even with hdr enabled on the display 1.4 then its disappeared. This is what very strange.

If its did not work at all no matter driver it would be a different story..

1-Take a screenshot of your display settings as you have shared it before on this thread but this time please also open the device manager to show the driver version that is working and to show the NUC working at 4K. Please make sure that the device manager and display settings are on the same screenshot so we can pass the information to our developers.

Thank you for the screenshot, that is actually the information we need, however, this screenshot shows a 4K resolution with driver version 30.0.101.3222 which from what I understood about your issue was not possible. Did you take the screenshot while using thunderbolt? If this is the case, we need the same screenshots while using DP in the following way:


1.-Screenshot using driver 27.20.100.8935, showing the 4K120Hz capability,

2.-Screenshot using driver 30.0.101.3222 showing where the 4K120 mode is lost .
