No Sound card was found by dxdiag.exe, no audio

I have a NUC8i3BEK2 with all the latest drivers installed. In Device manager I can see a Microphone Array (Realtek) under "Audio inputs and Outputs".

Under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" I have "Realtek audio"

 

Still my audio does not work. If I run dxdiag.exe it says:

no sound card was found. If one is expected install latest driver blablabla

 

Can I revert to an older driver? Can I try newer Beta drivers?

  1. Since you are referring to Realtek audio, do you have some speaker connected to the Audio Jack?
  2. If you expect to hear audio from HDMI connection (to TV for example), it is cared out by the Graphics Driver.
  3. Please open Windows settings Update & Security > Troubleshoot and run the Playing Audio and Recording Audio troubleshooter.

There are no speakers connected at this time. And nothing to HDMI as well.

Will the HDMI audio output only appear when I have a monitor connected?

  1. The monitor should be capable to reproduce audio signal. For example any TV monitor or PC monitor with build in speaker. You may hear audio either trough HDMI or DP USB-C connection.
  2. In addition you may connect amplified speaker/headset to the audio jack.
  3. An other possibility is to hear audio trough Bluetooth connection: either speaker or headset.
  4. In order to hear audio, the relevant device need to be set in Audi Panel as sound output device. You may use the Windows Playing Audio Troubleshooter.
