I was working with 2 Corsair DDR 4 sdram of 16 gb each one for about 3 years ( so 32 gb altogether recognized in Bios & OS ) . Suddenly the upper slot didn`t recognize it`s memory anymore. I got 3 blue blinks when starting the device.
- Now when I install only 1 of them in the lower slot ( 16 gb ) it is working again ( I tested both of them and they are both working in the lower slot )
- When there are both slots occupied ( 16 gb each one ) oder even only 1 of them in the upper slot, then I can`t boot up. Result: blue blinking 3 -times
I also updated my bios & restaured the default settings. To no avail.
Conclusion: the upper slot is defective as both memory sticks are working in the lower one .
The garanty seems to be over ( bought about 3 -4 years ago )
My idea: Buying a 32 gb sdram memory and installing it in the lower slot instead of the 16 gb Ram.
1.)- Would that be working ?
2.) I can`t see any damage referring the upper slot . I was looking with a magnifier-glass. Any hint ?

1. I affray that 32GB memory module will not work in your NUC. Although your CPU supports 32GB maximum memory, I understand that 32GB modules are not supported (see Table 4 on page 9 in the TPS). In addition, 32GB memory modules where not validated by Intel for your NUC. So, is up to you to take a chance to try it.
2. Did you cleaned the contacts of the memory upper slot, using air duster and contacts cleaning solution? If not yet, you may try.

Thanks a lot. I`ll try your hints. Hopefully it is going to work again.
Any idea if in case that the slot should be really defective : would that be an indicator that the other slot will be the next one in the near future without function ? I am not experienced related to motherboard issues.
I am asking because that would mean, that I should buy a new one & sell the old one before that "catastrophy" will materialize.

Unfortunately I could not fix the problem after following the advice
The 16 gb of ram are fully utilized, but the cpu is only utilized to around 10% normaly.
The question arises as to which Nuc model is an alternative. I think at least 32 gb should be possible
and cpu power should be less important in this case. Can you give me an advice ?
In any case, I need a replacement in the event that the working slot is also defective.

Hello Ron11
Thank you for your response.
The 3 blinks in a pattern (indication of "Memory error") and the fact that none of the 2 memory sticks work on the upper slot, it seems the memory slot might be failing. However, as an additional test to verify this further, you may try using another/different kit of memory modules from the same manufacturer with the same part number and speed. Please let us know if you are able to try this or if you are not due to not having another RAM kit to test.
In regards to the inquiry about an alternative model, we have many options for Intel® NUCs supporting 32GB of RAM or more. In the following link, you will find a list of Intel® NUC kits from 10th, 11th, and 12th Generation supporting up to 64GB of RAM.
The list is long, so you can see the different models available and then choose based on your needs and the target "use case". You may also refer to the How to Compare Intel® NUC Products Using the Product Specifications Page (ARK) to manually search and compare Intel® NUCs.
In addition, you may refer to the following link "What is Intel® NUC?" and scroll down to find information about Intel® NUCs and reference links to different market targets, and a "Frequently Asked Questions" section.
If you have further inquiries about how to choose an Intel® NUC, please let us know.

I have the same Nuc 8i7beh. I wanted also to report that after a 3 years of good working ram (RAM HYPERX HX424S14IB/16 in every slot) suddenly i couldn't boot any more. I removed the one module ...i tested change ram position and found that only one slot is working...the other not...both ram modules are working fine in this slot...none is working in the other slot...my warranty was of and decided to stay with just one module.
Unfortunatly i have other problems too...i replaced the original cpu fan after 2 years with compatible made in china....they don't last long...in 3 years i replaced 4 fans...intel doesn't support selling new fans and send me a link to another seller in us...i live in europe...so i keep changing fans ...
initially i liked nucs....now i will never buy again.....i spended a lot of money
i am thinking buy a mac mini m2 pro....

I also have the exact same issue as the above 2 case, my Nuc8i7BEH ram slot 2 (upper slot) suddenly died and now I could only run 1 x 16gb ram on slot 1. I really need 32gb of ram to run 6 instance of BlueStacks smoothly . I know someone have tested running 2x 32gb on both slot and it works fine on 64gb of ram (https://madlabber.wordpress.com/2019/07/13/running-esxi-6-7-on-a-bean-canyon-intel-nuc-nuc8i5beh/).
Just wanted to find out did anyone tested installing 1 x 32gb of ram on ram slot 1 (lower slot) and it is working?

Same issue here on Nuc8i7BEH, after 3 years, top slot is dead, only running on 16Gb on slot 1. A pity, and, it seems, unreliable material with some real issue. Did someone manage to run with 32Gb on one slot? (the lower one, which seems to run better). Another question: is the bottom one to work sufficiently long? or did someone experience also this lower slot to fail? Thanks.

Same issue here. NUC8i7BEH, stopped working yesterday. Running 2 x 16GB Kingston Impact. 3 blinks when trying to start it with memory installed in the upper slot.
Seems like a structural issue with this model. Intel feedback would be appreciated.
