PowerDVD can't play HDR movies on Intel® NUC Kit NUC8i7HVK

I have Windows 10 64 bit installed on my Intel Nuc NUC8i7HVK. All drivers were downloaded from this site https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/126143/Intel-NUC-Kit-NUC8i7HVK Downloads for Intel® NUC Kit NUC8i7HVK and installed. NUC is connected to Yamaha A3070 receiver and then to Sony TV Oled A1. Belkin Ultra High Speed 4K HDMI Cables used for both connections.

PowerDVD 18 can't play HDR videos, saying that my TV can't play HDR.

Please help me with this issue. Thanks.

Does it work if you direct connect the NUC to the TV?

I tried, but It made no difference. It says "You computer or display device does not support HDR. Do you want to play the video with SDR instead?"

I run DxDiag. Attached is the report.

Thanks.

Hi,

Sorry to give this answer, but NUC8I7HVK is not supporting Blu-ray UltraHD /HDR!

The limitation is built into the HW, HDMI interface must be connected to a Intel Graphic circuit to this format to work with Blu-ray UltraHD/HDR .

One of the demanding requirements on the HW to get Blu-Ray Ultra HD to work.

In NUC8I7HVK HDMI interface is connected to the AMD Graphics circuits., see Technical Specification for NUC.

Neither you can play 4K/HDR on Youtube as the AMD Graphics does not support the VP9 Codec. The maximum is 1080P.

Hi,

Can we use an eGPU to solve this issue? If yes, what do you recommend?

Thanks.

What is your HW setup?

What is the media on, a file or a disk?

No, as I understand the display must be connected to a motherboard with Intel Graphics 630 or better.

If you run Cyberlink Ultra HD Advisor you can find information how to build a PC that supports UltraHD Blu-Ray HDR.

Hi,

NUC8I3BE/NUC8I5BE/NUC8I7BE seems to meet the requirement on paper.

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/mini-pcs/NUC8i3BE_NUC8i5BE_NUC8i7BE_TechPr... https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/mini-pcs/NUC8i3BE_NUC8i5BE_NUC8i7BE_TechPr...

The only missing function is SGX support in BIOS. But I guess it's there?

You better verify with Intel that it support all requirements.

Hello all,

Thank you for the information provided.

Regarding the Intel® Software Guard Extensions for Intel® NUC, it is required:

-If SGX security is enabled in BIOS.

-To play UHD Bluray content.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27118/NUCs-Intel-Software-Guard-Extensions-Intel-SGX-for-I... Intel® Software Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX) for Intel® NUC (NUC8I3BE / NUC8I5BE / NUC8I7BE)

I hope you find this information helpful.

Hi,

I enabled SGX in Bios, and then tried to install https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https://communities.intel.com/external-link.jspa... Intel® Software Guard Extensions, but failed. It says

"Fatal installation blocking issues are detected.

AESM has already installed by INF on this platform. Install will cancel".

Hi,

I have manage to activate SGX on my NUC8I7HVK, but it does not help in getting UHD Blu-ray support as Advanced Protected Audio/Video Path is not support in Vega Graphic.

This HW platform will never support UHD Blu-ray.

If you want anyway SGX on your system I think the Intel people should be able to help you.

By the way, which country are you from?

Hi,

I found a good document on the subject HDR on Intel Graphics

https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/graphics/HDR_Intel_Graphics_TechWhitePaper... https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/graphics/HDR_Intel_Graphics_TechWhitePaper...

The table at the end of the document gives a good overview of the requirements depending on the HDR source.
