I have a new Intel NUC8i3BEH with Win 10 Home (all updates on both).
While listening via Bluetooth to a YouTube mono (left channel only) piece, I went to Control Panel/Sound/Logitech H800 Headphones/Advanced and changed to 1 channel.
The audio went into high-pitched "quacking" and the YouTube app failed, warning me of audio subsystem fail.
Doing the same on Spotify, the music also became distorted in the same way, but Spotify did not fail. Spotify returned to normal when I changed back to 2-channel in "Advanced".
Trying the same sequence with a NAD D3020 on BT, the option to change to 1-channel is greyed out.
Very odd.

Hello KOhrn,
Thank you for posting on this Intel Community.
Does this behavior occur if you make these changes before playing videos?
We would like to gather more information about your system configuration. Please run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) and attach the report to this thread.
1. Download the Intel® System Support Utility and save the application in your computer.
2. Open the application and click "Scan" to see system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
3. To save your scan, click Next and click Save.

Hi:
This morning, when I try to reproduce the issue, I find that the option for one channel is greyed out before starting YouTube or Spotify and after starting them.
This is true for two devices, both on Bluetooth (JBL Flip and Logitech H800 headset).
Intel SSU scan material attached.

Hello KOhrn,
Thank you for your response.
Besides the differences between mono and stereo, could you please let us know why you are changing the channels in the Sound settings?

Hi Wanner G:
At the start, I was watching a YouTube video that had one channel (left) audio only. This was annoying, so I looked for a way to get mono sound.
After the very odd result from going to one-channel, I raised this question on the support forum, and did some trouble-shooting to assist the process.
Hope this helps.

Hello KOhrn,
We have not been able to replicate this issue.
By any chance, could you please post a link to a YouTube* mono piece?
We are also testing this in Spotify, but we have encountered no issue yet.

Hi Wanner:
Here's the link to the original YouTube video, featuring sound on the left channel only.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgExzJs0irU
I note that today: Control Panel / Sound / Headset / Properties / Advanced / Default Format shows no choices (greyed out 1 channel 16 bit 8000 hz (Telephone Quality))
Thanks for your work on this.

Hello KOhrn,
We were not able replicate the sound issues described on this thread. By going to Sound settings, however, we were able to set a device, headphones or speaker, as default and changed from mono sound to stereo sound.
YouTube* uses codecs for stereo audio on most videos. Spotify works on both ways, Mono/Stereo, and YouTube* was based on a web application. High pitch sound is expected since the sound is being compressed through single channel.

Hi Wanner G:
Thank you for your work.
I am no longer able to replicate this issue either. The advanced setting in Sounds no longer shows a one-channel option for the Logitech H800 headphones. There is only a 2 channel option, and it is greyed out.

Hello KOhrn,
Thank you for your feedback. It is highly appreciated.
In this scenario, we recommend contacting the developers of the applications to confirm whether these applications set mono or stereo sound by default.
