[Report] Intel NUC9i9QNX - WiFi keeps breaking off

Hello, I bought the Intel NUC9i9QNX and set it up with Windows 10. It's completely fresh. The WiFi connection keeps dropping and if it lasts longer than 10 minutes, it is extremely weak.

Windows Update installed the latest driver.

With the 21.1 driver, the connection holds, but even Google is too much.

If the CPU is heavily used, no WLAN connection can be established.

A second PC is in the same place and everything works perfectly there, the WLAN receiver is the same there.

NUC9i9QNX

WiFi 6 AX200 160MHz

Driver Version: 22.170.0.3

Is there a mechanism that throttles the WLAN when the CPU is used or is the driver faulty?

Many Thanks.

Hello @SuperFranTV

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

First, we would like to recommend a clean installation of both Wireless and Bluetooth using the customized drivers for the Intel® NUC. The wireless and Bluetooth components have a strong relation in functionality, therefore, it is important to install the driver for both components.

Please download and save on the computer the following drivers:

  • Intel® Wireless Bluetooth® Driver for Windows® 10 64-Bit and Windows® 11 for Intel® NUC, version 22.160.0 (Latest).
  • Intel® Wireless Technology-Based Driver for Windows® 10 & Windows* 11 for Intel® NUC Products, version 22.160.0 (Latest).

Follow the steps in these articles for installation instructions:

  • How to Perform a Clean Installation of Bluetooth Drivers
  • Clean Installation of Wireless Drivers
  • Note: During the process, after uninstalling the current drivers and before reinstalling the drivers, you may clear out your temporary files: Press the Windows* Key + R to open the run box. Type Cleanmgr.exe and press OK. Here you will need to make sure Temporary Files are checked, you may uncheck everything else, then press OK. Reboot your computer and proceed to install the drivers.
  • We recommend installing the Bluetooth driver first, followed by the wireless driver.

In addition, we recommend installing the latest BIOS update in case the system is not running the latest: version 0070. Please refer to the BIOS update instructions (we usually recommend the F7 Update method).

If the behavior persists, please provide us with the following information:

1- Is this behavior occuring since the very first day that you have the Intel® NUC? Or did it work fine before at some point? If it worked as expected before, were there any hardware or softwar changes that may relate to the point when the issue started?

2- Is this behavior happening at home, office environment or both?

3- Router and/or Access Point maker and model:

4- Run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) to gather more details about the system:

  • Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer
  • Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
  • To save your scan, click Next and click Save.
  • Once you have saved the file (.txt file), please attach it to your reply.

To upload and attach a file, use the "Drag and drop here or browse files to attach" option below the response textbox.

I installed the drivers like shown in the instructions.

the bios is allready on the newest version.

problem still happens..

I noticed that if I play a game (the game's access to the internet is blocked by firewall) and it's using 40% of the CPU, the WiFi connection doesn't work at all. Also the reception of the keyboard sometimes fails (the keyboard is connected via dongle)

1. Since the first day i buyed the nuc

2. use only at home

3. Fritz!Box 7362 SL

4. coming soon

Hello SuperFranTV

Thank you for your response.

We understand that you will be providing the Intel® SSU report soon. In addition to that, could you please also confirm the following details?

1- We were unable to find an official Datasheet/User Manual* from the FRITZ!* Lab website. However, from third-party websites (e.g.: link 1*, link 2*), it seems this modem/router supports wireless-networking standards up to 802.11n. Is this correct?

2- Does the issue still happen if you test using only the PC and the router on the network? (no other wireless devices connected to the wireless network during this test)

3- Are you able to test using a different router or access point (AP)? If possible, maybe testing with one that supports newer standards such as 802.11ac or 802.11ax. Or you may also test using creating a mobile hotspot with a cellphone to see if the behavior is the same on the Intel® NUC.

4- To discard possible interference issues due to the Keyboard wireless dongle, could you please test by plugging the dongle into different USB ports? If possible, please also test using a wired USB keyboard to see if the behavior is different.
