SSD in base of NUC 11

I have recently bought a barebones NUC 11 Kit (RNUC11BTMI70000) and provided a 500Gb OS SSD and a 1TB storage SSD. Everything is working fine except, I note that the 1TB drive cannot be seen when mounted in the slot in the base of the PC but is fine if mounted in one of the internal slots. Both SSD's are Crucial P5 Plus CTxxxxP5PSSD8 (PCIe 4.0, 3D NAND, NVMe, M.2 Gaming SSD) up to 6600MB/s.

Is there any good reason the drive can't be seen in the bottom slot or do I have a faulty machine?

Hello billyjo2002,

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities.

To have a better understanding of your issue, please provide me with the following:

  • Is the issue present since day one?
  • If you try to use another drive in the slot you have issues with, the problem persists?
  • Check if the BIOS detects the drive:
    • Press F2 during boot to enter BIOS Setup.
    • Go to Advanced > Devices > SATA (or Advanced > Storage.)
    • See if the drive is detected and identified on the SATA Port or the M.2 Port.
    • Press F10 to exit BIOS.

Apologies for the late reply - your responses went into Junk.

  • Is the issue present since day one? YES
  • If you try to use another drive in the slot you have issues with, the problem persists? NO SSD CAN BE READ IN THE LOWER SLOT
  • Check if the BIOS detects the drive: NO SSD DRIVE IS DETECTED IN THE LOWER SLOT AND DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE BIOS LISTING

The SSU report ss attached

Thanks, Ivor
