Solution for Netflix Flickers/Flashing and bad basic graphic game performance (Diablo III) on NUC8i7BEH and Ultrawide Monitor

Hello,

I have a Intel NUC8i7BEH:

  • Corsair 16 GB RAM DDR4 2400 (single SLOT)
  • Corsair NVMe 480 GB SSD
  • Crucial M500 1 TB SSD
  • Ultrawide Monitor SAMSUNG C34J791W (59-60-100 Hz, I tried every setting, but the issues are persisting)
  • Connection by HDMI 2.0 cable (it works fine between same monitor and my macmini 2014)
  • Win 10 Home SL

All drivers (graphic, BIOS, HDMI, Monitor) are installed (with date 10 APR 2019).

I have 2 Problems:

  • When I open Netflix (UHD Abbonament) in google Chrome (or Microsoft Edge) all the screen start to flicker, associated to some audio noises. Everything stops when I close the windows of Netflix!
  • When I play Diablo III (in full screen or in a small window), the Performance is extremely bad (also on 1080p resolution). It is much worse than my Macmini late 2014 on the same screen. => I tried to make the resolution lower and to change the HZ of the monitor...but Diablo III gets stocking, while I play it.

What is the Problem? Any idea?

Thank you.

Giacomo.

Hello gfris, Thank you for posting on the Intel ® communities. First, To better assist you with your request, I will need to check some information about your computer. Please follow these steps: 1. In the keyboard, press WinLogo key + R. 2. In the Run box please type dxdiag and hit Enter. 3. Click on Save All Information (save it in your desktop). 4. Attach the report to this thread. Also, please have a look in the link below which shows the video recommended settings for Diablo III: https://gameplay.intel.com/CPUAndGameSelected/Index/137979/618346/0 Check to see if the performance is still poor. Something I would like to know is if you have the possibility to try 2 RAM sticks instead of 1, using dual channel could increase the performance. If not possible then let me know. Hello David,

thank you for helping.

I changed from HDMI 2.0 cable to a thunderbolt 3 cable: Netflix does not let flash/flicker the display anymore.

So now, I have still this 2 issues:

  • HDMI entry problems with netflix...weird? => How can I fix it?

  • The Diablo III performance does not get better (You recommended me high settings, but I have already had bad performance with lowest Diablo III settings), even with the thundebrolt 3 cable. I just want to recall I have a 1440p 34 inches display, but as I said, y macmini late 2014 works much better than this NUC!

  • I cannot invest more money in another 16 GB RAM to see if there is a miracle...because the performance is extermely and unexpected very bad.

This is the DxDiag File from today (with Thunderbolt 3 cable connection).

Thank you very much for helping.

Have a nice weekend.

Giacomo

Hello gfris, Thank you for your response. I understand you are unable to use dual-channel memory, this was for testing purposes so it's fine not to use two. Now, something we can try is to change the power plan to high performance. You can do this by going to Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional power settings. Also, please try updating Windows* to the latest version, you can do this by using Windows Update, if you cannot get the latest update via Windows Update, please download it from the link below: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 * Please be aware that the content on that site is not controlled by Intel*. This information is offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel* for the merchants or services offered there. * If the issue persists, I can try testing this on-site. However, I will need some information in order to proceed with the testing, please refer to the link below and provide me with the information requested there: https://forums.intel.com/s/question/0D50P0000490AGdSAM/important-template-for-submitting-a-graphics-bug NOTE: Please attach the information in this thread. Hello David,

I have still the 2 issues:

1) MOnitor Flickering, only when I open UHD Netflix (only by the HDMI 2.0 Samsung cable, with the thundebolt 3 cable , this issue is not there)

2) Bad graphic peformance, playing Diablo III, at lowest graphic setting (full screen or small window)

I attach a foto for the issue 1)

In the next messages, I will attach the txt SSU as well as the 2 Forms filled (1 for each issue).

Thanks in advance.

Hello gfris, Thank you for your patience. I have finished the testings on-site. Please refer to the steps to replicate below: - Diablo III bad performance LAB Equipment: Intel NUC8i7BEH Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Build 17763 Graphics driver: 6519 RAM: 4GB BIOS: 0064 Interface: HDMI Steps to replicate: 1 - Set the display to 2K (2560x1440 @ 60Hz) 2 - Downloaded the Blizzard app. 3 - Downloaded Diablo III game. 4 - Opened Diablo III and with default graphics the game ran at 30fps 5 - Tried with lowest settings and game ran at over 20fps 6 - Lowered it to midium and game ran at 35 - 40 fps. - Netflix Flickering LAB Equipment: Intel NUC8i7BEH Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Build 17763 Graphics driver: 6519 RAM: 4GB BIOS: 0064 Interface: HDMI Steps to replicate 1 - Display already set to 2K (2560x1440 @ 60Hz) 2 - Opened Netflix with Google Chrome 3 - Played a show and watched for some time to see if the flickering happened. 4 - Since it did not happen in Google Chrome, tried in Microsoft Edge. 5 - Played a show for some time and there was no flickering either. As you can see, the issues were not replicated so I would recommend to check with a different RAM stick if possible, it doesn't have to be the 16GB, only if you have a spare RAM stick. Make sure that the power plan in use is "High Performance" to see if this makes a difference. I hope this helps. Regards, David V Intel Customer Support Technician Under Contract to Intel Corporation

Hello David,

thank you for trying to help me, but your help is not really functional and effective:

  • NEtflix Problem: I have it only by HDMI cable 2.0, which work with every other machine I have. Using the USB-C Port, I don' thave anz problem
  • Bad Graphic performance: it is just too bad.

In both cases, yout advices did not really help me.

I will give the NUC back, and I will buy a macmini 2018, which does not give so many problems...

This is horrible...you buy an Intel barebone and nothing really work fine, after paying it a lots of money for what it is.

Have a nice day.

Giacomo
