Sudden change in performance with GPU spiking

I've been runing a NUC8i7HVK4 for around 7 months now that has been flawless. In the last 48 hours I've noticed performance issues when playing games on my pc and I try to perform another action such as use chrome in my second monitor. The game has a stutter and the pc freezes for a second or two before returning to normal. This also occurs if I say turn up the volume or almost any action the presents a graphic (2D or 3D).

Previously this was never ever an issue for me, the pc was able to glide through and is more powerful than I need for the games I run (WOW is the heaviest game I run). The only new bit of software I've added is a widely used and community trusted wow addon called TradeSkillMaster.

I've run a few diagnostics but the issue is beyond my comprehension. Any help on some trouble shooting or thoughts would be helpful.

  1. Upgrade your Windows from version 1903 to 1909 (BTW, in end of May a new Windows version will be released). Use Microsoft Update Tool.
  2. Open Apps and Features (in Windows Settings). Click on AMD Software and then click on Uninstall. Follow the instruction and at the end reboot your NUC.
  3. Download the AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.2.2 Windows 10 64 bit. Click on downloaded exe and follow the instruction for installation. Reboot your NUC at the end.
  4. Download the latest Intel DCH Graphics Driver version 8190 and install it.

This has fixed everything up, thanks for the link to the AMD software. As a fairly new pc user I wasn't aware of the seperate drivers and had been only running the intel update tool. Even so it didn't suggest to update the DCH driver.

Thanks a heap this is a clear, quick and easy answer.

Glad to help you. The primary graphics driver for the NUC8i7HNK is the Radeon Driver. The graphics output are not connected to the Intel HD Graphics 630. However you need both graphics drivers installed since the Intel Driver is used for video encoding and decoding.
