Thunderbolt or Displayport?

I just bought a brand new Intel NUC11 PAHi5. I have a monitor capable of 120 Hz. When I use an HDMI cable (8K) sometimes the monitor stays in standby and I have to reset my computer to bring it back on. The issue happens only when the monitor is at 120Hz. At 60 Hz it is ok.

I bought a Thunderbolt cable (USB-C) - Display port and the problem seem to be resolved.

The question is should I buy a miniDisplayPort - DisplayPort cable or should I use the this Thunderbolt - DisplayPort cable?

Are there any advantages of one over the other?

So let's look at the original problem first. What specific monitor are you testing with? This NUC utilizes a LSPcon IC to convert from DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.0b. It may be that there is an issue in the LSPCon IC's firmware. This cannot be debugged without knowing the specific monitor that needs to be tested.

You can use either an mDP-DP or USB-C-to-DP cable. The advantage of using a mDP-DP cable is that it leaves the USB-C connector available for other purposes, including supporting TBT devices and additional monitors.

The advantage to using the HDMI connector was the fact that it supported CEC. This capability won't be available using the mDP or USB-C connectors. If it's not supporting your monitor correctly, however, this advantage is moot.

It is a Samsung Odyssey G5 (LC32G55TQWRXEN). It doesn't support HDMI CEC.

Then probably I'l buy a mDP-DP cable.
