View System Event Log NUC8i3

Hi,

we have some unexplainable crashes with one of our NUCs, so we want to check if there are some errors in the SEL.

We found that errors should be shown in the main tab of the bios but there we only find the settings for the Event Log but no log messages. Does that mean there are no errors in the Event Log?

Is there a way to read out the SEL? We only found tools for server / XEON CPUs.

Thanks,

Thomas

If you don't see any entries in the Event Log scene in BIOS Setup, then there were no issues caught by the BIOS.

When you say 'crashes', are you referring to BSODs, hangs or spontaneous reboots? If BSODs, what are the codes occurring? If not BSODs, I would be looking first at whether you have borderline bad memory (and no, this doesn't necessarily result in BIOS Event Log entries).

Hope this helps,

We are experiencing reboots and complete shutdowns without any indications in the OS logs (we are running Ubuntu 18.04). After replacing the NUC (including memory and SSD) and its power supply we still have the same problems.

So it seems to be a problem on site, however the owner says there are no power outages. So we thought maybe there are problems with too high voltage or something like this causing the PC to shutdown. Would stuff like that be logged?

Thanks for your help

Sounds like you need to temporarily add a UPS (must be pure sine wave for any NUC whose wattage is >99W) in this location and see if this stops the problems from happening. If they do, you know it is a power issue there.
