What type of connector do the plugs for the antenna on the wifi-card need?

I have a NUC8i5BEH and the wifi chip has two sockets to plug in the two antennas (grey and black cable). I assume the grey is 2.4GHZ, the black is 5GHZ, correct?

What determines the type of antenna (2.4ghz or 5ghz)...the length of the cable? Or would they be compatible if you plugged in the grey cable in the socket where the black cable currently resides and vice versa?

What type is this plug UF.L, MHF3, MHF4, what?

What is the cable diameter and plug outer and inner diameter?

Cheers,

carsten

Hello CSchm16,

Thank you for posting on the Intel Community.

I understand you would like to know the type of connector of the antenna and also what determines the frequency.

Please allow me some days to perform some research and I’ll be posting back as soon as I have the outcome.

Best regards,

Hello CSchm16, This information is not publicly documented as the WIFI+Bluetooth chip is integrated along with the antennas. Are you working on a particular design or project? Thanks, Ronny G

The reception with the build-in antennas is quite bad.

It is standard practice to add a high quality external antenna if this is the case. This is nothing weird...comparable to adding another memory stick or swapping out the SSD for a bigger one.

But I need to know the plug-specs before ordering a new antenna. I am pretty sure what plug I need but I would prefer to be 100% certain - hence my question :)

Got it. I am pretty sure it is MHF4 but let me confirm and I will get back to you.

MHF4 was my guess as well.

Hi Carsten,

I got confirmation that the WIFI antenna connector is MHF4 compatible.

I hope this helps and if you dont mind sharing the results I would be very interested in seeing the results.

Regards,

Ronny G

Thanks. I finally ordered a supposedly MHF4 antenna. It looks like the same size but doesn't fit :(

I guess I have to order a different one and test my luck?

Do you have a list of antennas known to fit?
