When into Sleep status, EC fan still keep running (NUC10i7FN, FNCML357_46 BIOS)

Under OS, into Sleep status, I observed that power LED is changed to blink.

Why Fan did not cut off power source, it still keep running ... Does this is normal.

BIOS Setup:

Into BIOS Setup -> Set Fan be fixed at 35% -> Enter Win10 OS (20H2) -> Sleep -> Issue observed

Hello HPBird,

Thank you for posting on the Intel* Community.

To better assist you, please provide us with the below information:

  • Describe the blinking of the LED (color, timing)
  • By "under OS, into sleep status".. do you mean that you just follow these steps: Click Windows button > Power > Sleep? (if not and you use a different set-up (maybe a programmed set-up) please provide specific steps so we can try to replicate your issue).

Please run the following tool in Windows* and attach the report generated.

Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU)

  • Intel® SSU Download
  • Open the application and click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel® SSU will take you to the "Summary View".
  • Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
  • To save your scan, click on "Next", then "Save".

Hi Maria R.

= = =

  • Describe the blinking of the LED (color, timing)

[HPBird]: Color is Blue, timing maybe is 0.5 sec. for the blink setting, I follow the default BIOS Setup setting.

It is power button Blue LED, (In sleep, it will blink). HDD LED (In sleep, it will off)

Under BIOS setup, I set the "ModernStandby Enable", and in OS, use administrator CMD "powercfg /a", it will show its power support state is "待命 (S0 低電源閒置) 網路已連線" (Chinese world, it is modern standby).

  • By "under OS, into sleep status".. do you mean that you just follow these steps: Click Windows button > Power > Sleep? (if not and you use a different set-up (maybe a programmed set-up) please provide specific steps so we can try to replicate your issue).

[HPBird]: Yes, I use the instruction "Click Windows button > Power > Sleep". After seeing the LED blinking. I observed fan still running. did not power cut off.

Hello HPBird,

Thank you for your response.

The fan will just lower down the intensity, it will not turn off completely because the processor will be active and the fan needs to cool it down.

I hope that solves your question.

Hi Maria R,

Thanks your answer,

It is reasonable.

Just have an another question,

Does the ModernStandBy feature, CPU(process) will be turn off, When user Nuc did not use long time (15min~)?.

When CPU into some idle state, does it possible cut of EC fan?

Hello HPBird,

In this case, the answer is no, even if the CPU is working with the lower frequency or is in an idle state, the fan will keep working.

You can use this configuration, it makes the fan almost imperceptible:

Hello all,

I checked internally and the image shows the specific settings that should be changed. No missing configuration.

Please @HPBird, confirm if you were able to test the configuration and if you need further help with this.
