Why do I keep getting duplicate drive entries in my windows 10 pro install

I have a Intel NUC Kit NUC6i7KYK Mini PC

I have updated to the latest bios (KY0067.bio)

I am installing the latest windows 10 1909

I keep sucessfully installing windows and after the first boot when it discovers devices etc, the system no longer finds any bootable devicess.

I have my BIOS set to UEFI, my drive is gpt. And Ubuntu and other os's install fine... but windows duplicates the drive entries ? I have done a diskpart clean, I have tried everything I can think of, the drive is a samsung 960 pro ssd

  1. This happens because of the old Linux installation. The Boot record is full off old EFI entries.
