My nuc doesn't recognize any recording device when I plug in my headphones with mic (Skype etc.)
Audio driver is up to date....what else can I do?
I'm plug in via 3.5mm not usb
I use skype on my old laptop but I'd like to use it on my nuc.

If you are using Windows® 10 you will find an application that is called "Voice Recording", it will ask you to connect a microphone to record your voice, if you connect your headset, does it get recognize? Are you able to record your voice?
On the link below you will find the microphone requirements of the Intel® NUC6I7KYK, please verify them to make sure you are using the proper headset, page 22:

The voice recorder on Win10 does not recognize my headset with mic. It says "To get started connect a microphone" but there is nothing I can do at this point - nothing to click etc. I guess it should automatically recognize it...
I can listen to music just fine on the headset but the mic doesn't work. When I right-click the headphone icon on bottom right of my monitor it shows the headphones connected under the playback tab but nothing under the recording tab.
The drivers are all up to date and now the voice recorder on win10 recognizes that I have a headset/mic connected but it still isn't recording anything.
Same with Skype...there is now a Stero mix realtek high def audio under Microphone in audio settings but it still isn't recording my voice on test calls.
This is true with my headset/mic that I want to use and my earbuds with mic that I use on my phone...can listen but nothing will hear/record my voice with either product.
I'm assuming that your microphone on the headset is switched ON. You also have successfully tested it on other computer. Follow the following steps:
- Open Windows 10 settings
- Press on Update $ Security
- Press on Troubleshoot (in left panel)
- Press Recording Audio (in right panel)
- press Run the Troubleshooter and follow the instructions
If only it were that simple.
Neither mics on either headset (one earbuds one actual full size headset) work on my NUC. Both work fine on my phone and on my old laptop.
Your mobile phone and your laptop having its own microphone. So, this doesn't proofs that your headset microphone works if you can record on your other devices. Try your headset on desktop PC or try other headset on NUC. If windows doesn't recognize that microphone is connected, looks that your mic is not working or is switched OFF (muted).
You should also verify that the plug for your headset matches the requirements for the connector. This is documented in the Technical Product Specification (TPS) for the board (available here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/000005545.html Intel NUC Technical Product Specifications for Intel NUCs).

There is no off or mute button on my headset - just a volume button for louder or quieter.
I don't have a 2nd headset (just earbuds with mic) or a 2nd desktop - just NUC and laptop.
The headset has 2 cables (one for mic and one for speakers) that plug into one 3.5mm audio jack with a splitter that then plugs into the NUC. Perhaps this is too much for the nuc but not my old laptop? haha

Anyway this is just not going to work with this headset. I'll just use my laptop or phone for when I need to use microphone. Really too bad about this NUC issue.

Another user seemed to get it fixed but was using ubuntu
In the monitor right bottom corner you may see speaker icon. With your headphones connected and ON, right mouse click on this icon, then left click on Troubleshot sound problems . Follow the instruction on screen.
Please verify that your drivers are updated. The Chipset driver, Intel Management Driver and the Audio Driver are important in your case.
