I've bought every NUC from second generation onwards and have found that all of them produce a high pitch whine when the PC is off or on sleep. It is low volume, but if like me you intend to install the PC in a quiet environment (like next to your bed), the noise is very annoying. If laptop manufacturers can use the same CPUs and chipsets and produce no audible noise when off or in sleep mode, then this should be possible on the NUC. I would really appreciate it if this problem could be fixed on the next version of the NUC.
Would be good to hear from anyone else who has the same annoyance.
I can confirm this issue for every of my four NUC D34010WYK:
An extremly high pitch whine while standby but also under heavy load and during write access to mSata SSD - sometimes louder than the fan running at 20%!
Very annoying, getting louder over the time making passive cooling in a passive enclosure totally senseless.
