two nucs are out of stock everywhere I look:BOXNUC7CJYSAL1 NUC 7 Essential, a Mini PC with Windows® 10 - NUC7CJYSALBOXNUC7PJYH1 NUC Kit NUC7PJYHHas Intel discontinued either or both of these - Either one has specs and features I like. Like having HDMI 2.0a video and TOSLINK optical audio outputs. A hard to find combination. These do this without adding any external converters/adapters. Thank you.

No, these have not been discontinued. Intel Customer Support (and volunteers like myself) do not have any insights into what is happening in the distribution channels and thus cannot provide any answers with respect to availability.

Its too bad. Probably wont find a TOSLINK output. I can find HDMI 2.0a elsewhere. But TOSLINK no. And these were introduced in first quarter 2018. Look how fast they disappear. New to gone in over a year. What I get for not looking a year ago.

I see units available on Amazon, though they must know there is a shortage as the price seems way to high. The slightly older NUC6CAY models, which include a TOSLink interface as well, are available and seem well priced.

I did find an Amazon listing for a NUC6CAYH. Thank you!! I misread your first reply. So Thank you! So unknown shortages have made the 7CJYS / 7PJYH unavailable / high priced. I've been looking at the NUC6CAYH now. The question is get bare bones and add memory and disk and os, or get pre-setup for 76 - 230 dollars more depending on how much memory, disk size, and win10 home vs pro.

On Amazon I found a very bare bones NUC7CJYH for 173 dollars more than a very bare bones NUC6CAYH. Yes pricey. You are correct. Shortage.

That's my guess. If you go for the NUC6CAY, go for the NUC6CAYH and add memory (DDR3L, so fairly cheap) and storage (2.5" SATA drive bay) yourself. The NUC6CAYS model, which has Windows 10 preinstalled on an eMMC SSD, suffers from two big problems: the eMMC is too slow and the eMMC is too small. It was fun to play with but a complete pain in the a$$ when it came to updating Windows 10. I got around this by installing a SD card to provide additional storage (though I still had to do some serious cleanup of the eMMC to make room) and by initiating the update process from a USB flash disk loaded with the latest Windows ISO. Of course, with update 1903, USB flash disks and SD cards are both not allowed (the double whammy), so a new (TBD) process will be necessary.
