I am considering of purchasing an Intel Optane 905P to use on an Asus Rog Strix Gaming-i X470 AMD motherboard with a Ryzen 7 2700X. I am wondering if I could use this SSD with this particular motherboard and use it as my booting drive and storage drive.
I was told by some sources that if I were to use such combination, it will not work at all, not even as a fast SSD. Is such combination possible or will it not even post?
This is the list of tested SSDs provided by Asus themselves at their support site: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/ROG-STRIX-X470-I-GAMING-Devices-QVL.pdf?_ga=2.167100606.1220664254.1527771150-1056834793.1524155388 http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/ROG-STRIX-X470-I-GAMING-Devices-QVL.pdf?_ga=2.167100606.1220664254.1527771… Intel Optane 905p of course, is not mentioned.

Hello JuanMar,
The Intel® Optane™ SSD 905P Series has not been validated on ASUS ROG STRIX X470-I GAMING* from our side. However, the motherboard has the required PCIe 3.0 (at least x4) or M.2 PCIe (through M.2 to U.2 adapter) slots to be used with this drive. According to the list of supported devices you shared, the motherboard is compatible with other Intel NVMe SSDs as well.
We recommend to contact the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/topics/oems.html motherboard manufacturer to confirm compatibility. For a list of Intel tested motherboards, please check the following site:

Hello JuanMar,
It is a pleasure to assist you. The Intel® Optane™ SSD 900P and Intel® Optane™ SSD 905P are part of the 9 Series. If one of them is supported, it is quite possible the other will be as well.
Best regards,
Eugenio F.
