I have been doing quite a bit of research about SSD drives in the enterprise. I have some larger 16 drive arrays that I am using for virtualization. The question has come up do the Intel drives do anything to let me know they have reached the TBW number. I am running 50 VMs on the array and since there are multiple VMs the actual usage is very variable. I don't see anything happening for a few years but I also know budgets and they will not replace the drive until they have to.
Do the SSD drives go into read only mode, provide a warning that they are reaching the limit or nothing?

Hello komondor,
Thank you for contacting Intel® Technical Support.
To answer your questions:
- When the "Endurance Rating (Lifetime Writes)" measure is reached the SSD will be on read-only mode.
- Intel provides different tools to measure the life status of your SSDs like the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28234/Intel-Solid-State-Drive-Toolbox Intel® Solid State Drive Toolbox and the https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28286/Intel-SSD-Data-Center-Tool-Intel-SSD-DCT-?product=87278 Intel® SSD Data Center Tool (Intel® SSD DCT) or feel free to use any other third party utility to read the SMARTs from your SSD.
- This is a common topic in the VMware* communities and we advise you to review some of the available posts.
- In https://ark.intel.com/# @SolidStateDrives https://ark.intel.com/# @SolidStateDrives you will be able to find the Endurance Rating (Lifetime Writes) of all our SSDs.
We hope you find this information helpful.
