Hello
I bought an Optane P5801X with a PCIe adapter gen4/5
I'm testing it in an X299 plateform (gen 3, but no problem with other gen 4 SSDs).
It's recognized under Windows, but it shows PCIe 3.0 x1 (instead of x4)
I'm testing it instead of the 905P where it is in pcie 3.0 x4
Could this be an incompatibility issue with the X299 (even though this SSD works fine on the X99) ?
Or a problem with the adapter ?
I saw that firmware was available for this SSD (currently the L031FP01), and the one available here is the L0310600
Latest Firmware Versions for Intel® Optane™ Solid State Drives and...
Could a FW update fix this issue ?
Thanks for your help

Hello Tistou,
Greetings!
To clarify and simplify things for you, starting October 3rd, 2022, all technical and warranty support for formerly Intel® NAND SSD (now Solidigm™ SSD) products will be provided directly by Solidigm™.
To identify a formerly Intel® NAND SSD (as opposed to an Intel® Optane™ SSD, which is supported by Intel), refer to the drive name on the label. Drives based on Intel® Optane™ technology are labeled with "Intel® Optane™" in their names, while drives based on NAND technology are not.
Currently, the Intel® Optane™ SSD DC P5800X Series is still supported by us in terms of RMA. You can find more information here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000097072/memory-and-storage.html
Regarding your query about firmware distribution, it is not from Intel. The SSD you purchased is an OEM SKU from Mitac Computing. The part number and firmware version match the Mitac matrix: https://www.mitaccomputing.com/support/FW_Versions_Intel_SSD_Optane_Memory_article.
We recommend contacting Mitac support to confirm if a firmware update is needed. Generally, it's best practice to keep the firmware updated.
I hope this clarifies your doubts. If everything is clear, we would like to obtain your approval to close this thread.
Thank you & best regards,
Ragulan_Intel

Hello tistou,
Hope this message finds you well.
Thank you for reaching out to the Intel Community Forum!
To address the issue with your Optane P5801X SSD being recognized as PCIe 3.0 x1 instead of x4 on the X299 platform, you can try the following steps:
- Check the PCIe Adapter: Ensure that the PCIe adapter you are using is compatible with the X299 platform and supports the required PCIe lanes. Sometimes, adapters can cause issues with lane recognition1.
- Update Firmware: Updating the firmware of your Optane P5801X SSD might resolve compatibility issues. You mentioned that the current firmware is L031FP01, and the available update is L0310600. Updating to the latest firmware could potentially fix the problem2.
- BIOS Settings: Verify the BIOS settings on your X299 motherboard. Ensure that the PCIe slot configuration is set correctly. Look for settings related to PCIe lane allocation and make sure they are configured to support x4 lanes1.
- Test on Another Platform: Since the SSD works fine on the X99 platform, you might want to test it on another system to rule out any issues with the X299 platform itself.
- Consult System Manufacturer Support: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Intel support or the manufacturer of your PCIe adapter for further assistance.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify and potentially resolve the issue with your Optane P5801X SSD.
If you need any more help or have additional questions, feel free to ask!
Best Regards,
Ragulan_Intel

Hello
Thanks for your reply
It was the adapter, it works with another one.
Is it advisable to update the firmware ?
Do you know what improvements or fixes it brings ?
Thanks

Hello Tistou,
Greetings of the day!
Thank you for your update, and I’m glad to hear that the SSD is now working with another adapter!
Firmware updates are generally recommended as they often include important improvements, bug fixes, and optimizations. The new firmware (L0310600) may address PCIe lane recognition issues and improve stability.
Therefore, we would recommend updating the firmware in this situation and letting us know if there are any changes.
If you have any further questions or need assistance with the firmware update process, feel free to reach out!
Best regards,
Manoranjan

Ok, thanks for your reply
I haven't checked the Intel software yet, but it's possible I have an OEM version (unknowingly purchased from the seller) and the firmware update wouldn't be offered (which is happening to other P5801X users).
I don't suppose it's a good idea to update the firmware manually ?
Thanks

Hello tistou,
Greetings of the day!
Apologies for the inconvenience caused.
Regarding your query, could you please share an image of the product? This will help us determine whether it is an Intel product or an OEM version (and if so, which OEM).
Best regards,

Hello tistou,
Thank you for sharing the picture,
If your device is from an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), your firmware version may have a different naming. Contact your OEM https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/system-manufacturers.html for the latest firmware revision.
Please feel free to reply to this email. We're here to assist you every step of the way.

With the serial number, you can tell me, I guess, I bought it from an e-commerce site.
The firmware number starts the same, L031FP01 for actual and L0310600 for the last
Or was the L031FP01 distributed by Intel ?
Thanks for your help

Hello tistou,
Greetings!!
As you mentioned that the Gen 3 SSD is not performing well compared to the Gen 4 SSDs, could you please check if you have another Gen 3 SSD available for testing. This will help us isolate the issue more effectively.

Thank you very much for your replies and for informing me that the SSD is OEM
I assume the SSD is still 100% Intel, but with Mitac firmware (if you support the warranty) like those present in Dell PCs for example
I will contact Mitac for the firmware
Thanks
@vish1 No problem with the performance now, is was adapter problem

Hello
I have one last question,
The P5801X isn't listed on the firmware page (latest versions available)
Latest Firmware Versions for Intel® Optane™ Solid State Drives and...
Does this mean there haven't been any updates for this SSD ?
Thanks
