Cyclone II device

My institution has a Cyclone II family, the device number is EP2C20F484C7.

Is it only Quartus V.13 can program this Cyclone II device?

I have also installed Quartus V.20, but I couldn't find Cyclone II to be used for Quartus v.20. Is it available?

May I know how much is the cost to buy a new device for educational purpose at university?

Correct, QuartusII Web 13.0sp1 is the last and now only available version of Quartus that supports the CycloneII family.
I run it on my current Windows 10 system and it works just fine. It also works on Windows7 64b. And there is a linux version also.
Any later version of Quartus like 16, 17, 18, etc does not support CycloneII.

As far as development boards, TerAsic in Taiwan has a large number of Intel/Altera boards over a wide price range.
You can get boards anywhere from US$50 to US$25,000 depending on the technology they contain.
You can see them here: https://www.terasic.com.tw/cgi-bin/page/archive.pl?Language=English&CategoryNo=13&List=Simple

They do offer educational discounts for some boards. See their website for details.

Thanks for your reply. I have installed Quartus II Web 13.0sp1 on Windows 11. Hope it works.

Please recommend a basic Development & Education Board, for the undergraduate level, which only requires toggle switches, push buttons, LED light, 7-segment, clock, etc.

Thank you.

I very much doubt QuartusII 13.0sp1 will work on Windows 11 (in fact pretty sure it will not work).
I'm not even sure the latest and greatest QuartusII 21/22 even works on Windows 11.

QuartusII 13.0sp1 DOES work well on Windows7 64b and Windows10 (which is only 64b).
I use it in that environment all the time.

I would recommend the DE10-Lite for US$82 academic:
https://www.terasic.com.tw/cgi-bin/page/archive.pl?Language=English&CategoryNo=234&No=1021#contents
It has lots of displays and switches and a good amount of GPIO lines for experimentation.

Currently, I am using Quartus v.20 on Windows 11. I dare not even try to install latest version of Quartus.

Thanks for recommending DE10-Lite. With this device, what's the device family name that I shall download to be used on Quartus v.20?

Are you working in Terasic?

Can you send me a quotation for DE-10 Lite to chowls@ucsiuniversity.edu.my

The DE10-Lite uses the MAX 10 family devices.

Quartus 20.1 supports MAX 10 family, but is not listed as being qualified on Windows 11. So it may work, or not.

According to the OS support page, version Quartus v22.3 or later is qualified for use on Windows 11, and it supports MAX 10.
See: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/programmable/support-resources/design-software/os-support.html

I don't work for either TerASIC or Intel/Altera.

I do have a DE10-Lite board that I purchased via a distributor for my own personal use.

I can't send you quotes, but you can buy the board thru TerASIC (and get an academic discount)
or various electronics distributors (but most likely you will pay full price).
I suggest you contact TerASIC thru their website at the link I posted previously.

You can also download all the support files (examples, user manual, etc) from their website.

Unfortunately I got the Fatal Error below. This is the v.13.0.1.232 (sp1)

I only have Cyclone II device, therefore, I couldn't use new version of Quartus. Kindly advice how to solve this. Thank you.

You can't use Windows 11 to run such old software as QuartusII 13.0sp1.

Either find a Windows 10 or Linux box to run it on, or you will need to move to the latest version of Quartus,
and buy new hardware, as the CycloneII family stopped being supported in 13.0sp1.
