As per title, I decided it was time to migrate an old project from Quartus 18.1 to 20.1. It's a Cyclone IV GX PCIExpress design and on compilation I get the errors:
Error (12252): Altgx_internal: error copying "C:/intelfpga_lite/20.1/quartus/../ip/altera/ip_compiler_for_pci_express/lib/altpcie_serdes_3cgx_x1d_gen1_08p.v": no such file or directory
Error (12252): Altgx_internal: Generation callback did not provide a top level file (expected `add_file $output_dir/pcie_qsys_pcie_hard_ip_0_altgx_internal.v|vhd|sv {SIMULATION SYNTHESIS}`)
It doesn't matter whether I run the migration wizard or not, same error.
Any ideas

Hi,
Can you try to copy the following directory from 18.1 into same location in whatever newer release(20.1 and 21.1):
\18.1\ip\altera\ip_compiler_for_pci_express

Hi,
We do not recommend direct migration as some feature might be miss match.
I suggest you to regenerate a new design using Quartus v20.1.
Alternatively, you can try below KDB and see if it is able to resolve your problem or not.

So I tried regenerating the design, no joy, same error.
The KBD mentions the same error code but with a different error message, so no help there.
Still stuck unfortunately.

This error - "Error (12252): Altgx_internal: error copying "../altpcie_serdes_3cgx_x1d_gen1_08p.v": no such file or directory" is still showing up when generating HDL in the Platform Designer for the design that has PCI Express IP. I have version 22.1std.1 Build 917 Lite Edition.
This seems like an issue that should have been fixed.
