Internal Error: Sub-system: VPR20KMAIN, File: /quartus/fitter/vpr20k/altera_arch_common/altera_arch_route_lookahead.c, Line: 4315
During the routing the Internal Error above shows up. This is consistent over several devices and every run attempted so far using Quartus 17.0 for an Arria 10 FPGA.
The project did build without issue before an additional entity was added. Is there some critical point when a design is too full for Quartus to handle it?
Are there any know work arounds for this issue without having to upgrade to a newer version? Upgrading the IPs in the project for a newer Quartus verison would result into other issues/a lot of work.

Hi @Duko
It seems that this internal error is not found in our database. So there is no known workaround currently for this internal error (IE).
Since this is old version of Quartus, we recommend to upgrade the project to the latest Quartus version as there is a lot of fix being done.
If the design is too large, it will not fit in the device selected.

Richard Tan

Hi @Duko
Do you still see the IE in the latest Quartus version?

Hi Richard,
Thanks for poling on the progress.
I still need to complete the transition/porting IPs to a newer version.
So work in progress.

Update on the progress. I did update from 17.0 to 19.1 (latest version currently available within the company) and the issue persists.

Hi Richard,
I cannot share any files on this forum.
I moved the question to the premium support to be able to do that.
I think it's fair to close this topic here.
Kind Regards,
Duko
