Modelsim #ERROR failed to start simulation kernel

I have

- reinstalled modelsim a few times

- tried different versions

- uninstalled everything i installed since i encountered this error

- and i've tested it with the smallest of code (i.e. no loops).

Internet searches come up with next to nothing. This is relatively urgent, if anyone has any ideas, that would be fantastic

cheers,

dave

okay.

after 3-4 different versions of model sim installed, trying it on different operating systems and installing modelsim more than 10 different times it, for some reason, started working out of nowhere.

i simulated as i did normally, it threw that error.

then i accidently simulated again at which point it worked. and it now works with a big project.

very strange, i cant pinpoint exactly what i did in the 3 ms of simulating it the second time. how can this even happen, i do not understand, it has me flummoxed.

K, i found the reason.

vsimk.exe was blocked from connecting to the internet, this caused it to throw that error. as soon as i stop enabling all in my firewall it crashes.

this is strange, because it was working fine for about 3 months when i had no internet on the machine. anyways, hope this helps someone.
