Quartus 12.1 altera_up_avalon_sram module

Hello everyone!

It's my first post here. I'm working on my bachelor thesis, and was assigned the task of trying to evaluate someone elses work. I'm trying to work without disturbing my professor with silly questions, but I face problems at every turn. I've spent over one day installing Quartus on a Ubuntu VM.

The thing i'm trying to do is use a script to automatically generate certain systems. The script uses SOPC-builder (we cannot use Qsys for reasons pertaining to the Qsys interconnect), and the guy who created the scripting system succesfully tested it on Quartus 12.1.

However when I first ran it on Quartus 13, it sort of worked, it seemed I could program the two Nios cores, but when trying to download the .elf onto the cpus, apparently i need a .jdi file which was not created. This led me to believe that I have to try it with Quartus 12.1. But this time SOPC-builder complains with:

Error: system.sram: Component altera_up_avalon_sram 12.0 not found or could not be instantiated Error: system.sram.avalon_sram_slave: Must have address units of WORDS in SOPC Builder (was null)

Bear in mind, i'm a Linux newbie as well as newbie regarding anything Altera, I have only taken a couple of introductory VHDL and computer engineering classes where we worked with the DE2 boards and the Nios processors.

What should i do? Where should i look? Is my Quartus installation broken? And secondly, what program creates the .jdi file?

Thanks for any and all help!
