Quartus II 20.1 does not find USB Blaster I (download cable)

I know the USB Blaster Windows driver has an expired digital certificate.  Thus it will not install or function with Quartus 20.1 Lite.  I have applied the Intel 22012709245 patch, but DPinst.exe still fails. )Failed Install.jpg

At the moment, I am dead in the water.  I can not download my code to the Intel FPGA.  Is there another work around?  I have been told the issue is fixed in Quartus Pro 21.2.  Is there some way I can use it or some portion of it to get around the problem until updates 20.1 Lite?

Thank you for your time and help.

P.S. Is Intel in the business of selling FPGAs in volume or selling FPGA development SW ?

Hi,

May I know where was the patch taken from? Can you provide me the link so I can check?

Here is the Intel URL for the patch:

URL:  https://www.intel.com/content/altera-www/global/en_us/index/support/support-resources/knowledge-base...

I applied it to a fresh install of Quartus Prime Lite Edition, 20.1.1:

URL: https://fpgasoftware.intel.com/20.1.1/?edition=lite&platform=windows

I used a USB Blaster Rev C.

Hi,

When the driver was installed, did you get any pop up or notification saying : USB device not recognize?

Or what is the message that show quartus did not find USB blaster?

Also, you can also try some tips from here:

https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/solved-usb-device-not-recognized-in-windows-10-2/

Let me know how if it works or not.

Hi Aiman,

Here is the error message I get as well as pictures of the driver states.Device not migrated.jpgDriver Cert.jpgFailure Message.jpg

Also, I tried the tips from the link you provided.  None of them worked.

I believe the problem is the expired driver certification.  In the beginning of June I was able to use the USB Blaster with Quartus with no issues.  Later, at the end of July when I tried to use the same USB Blaster with Quartus, the USB Blaster was not found and programming a FPGA no longer worked.

Best regards,

TOMSZ

Hi,

Have you try to install the USB blaster on other PC? Or can you try to use another USB Blaster?

I have tried two different USB Blasters.

Hi,

Here is a manual method that you can try:

Manual Method:

1 - Go to windows 10 settings and search for "advanced startup options"

2 - Under Advanced startup, hit "Restart now"

3 - After a moment, you'll get a "choose an option" screen - choose "Troubleshoot", then "Advanced options", then "Startup Settings"

4 - You'll get a screen telling you what you will be able to change and a single "Restart" button - press it.

5 - If your boot drive is BitLocker encrypted, you'll need to enter the recovery key (press return, enter the key in the text box then hit return again - it took me three goes to realize I had to hit return before I could enter they key !)

6 - You'll be given a menu of options, number 7 disables driver signature enforcement

7 - When the PC restarts, use Device manager to update the drivers - this time you'll get a warning about the signature, but they install fine.

8 - When you've finished, restart normally to re-enable signature enforcement

Hi,

Have you used the manual method provided below? The drivers patch in the KDB are not working for Quartus Prime Lite version.

Hi,

Apologize for the inconveniences previously.

I have refer the case about installing USB Blaster using Quartus Lite to our engineering team, and they have confirm that the patch in the KDB is working with Quartus Lite. Please ensure to use patch for Quartus standard to install USB blaster using Quartus lite, this is because they have same directory.

Per my understanding, before this you are using Quartus pro patch from the KDB. Please try to use patch for Quartus standard. Let us know if it is still not working.
