Quartus Prog Pro 20.4 with FPGA Dev Kit DK-SOC-1SSX-H-A QSPI

I am using Quartus Programmer Pro 20.4 on Windows with FPGA Development Kit DK-SOC-1SSX-H-A, and I can successfully flash a .sof file and seems to be working fine.

However, I would like to flash the QSPI with a .jic file, but I cannot find a way that does this correctly and works.

Please can you provide a step by step guide for how to flash a .jic file to the QSPI for the DK-SOC-1SSX-H-A dev kit?

If there are any hardware dip switches to be changed before/during/after the steps, please inform me of this in the step by step guide.

Hi there,

No harry, there is the steps:

  1. Change the MSEL setting to QSPI

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/programmable/683303/current/fpga-configuration.html

  1. Change the SW1, make sure the MAXV is in jtag chain:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/programmable/683303/current/preparing-the-board.html

  1. about how to find the flash and program it, there is the refer link

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/programmable/683303/current/system-controller-updates.html

That is all.

Thanks for instructions, however this seems to be for the MAX10 and for a .pof file.

Are these the step by step guide for programming the onboard QSPI Flash card below?

4.1. Development Kit Feature Summary (intel.com)

  • QSPI Flash: 256 MB (MT25QU02GCBB8E12-0SIT)

My .jic file reference when loaded into Quartus Programmer shows up as device MT25QU02G, which is different to .pof file shown in your link below:

3.3. Intel® MAX® 10 System Controller Updates

@WZ2 Is there any further support you can provide on the .jic file programming guide?

Hi there,

The .jic is stored in flash, and Max 10 use it to config the device~ If you wanna program the device by JTAG,

Could you tell me how u wanna use jic?

@WZ2

Of course I can expand on my use case. I would like on dev kit to power up, to automatically flash the firmware flashed into the QSPI Flash 256 MB (MT25QU02GCBB8E12-0SIT) into the FPGA without user intervention.

At the moment, I am flashing an .sof file with Quartus every time I power up the dev kit, which I would like to avoid doing.

Hi there,

I am still not sure which part block you:

  1. Generate the jic file which supported by AS configuration.
  2. Use programmer, auto detect the flash and device
  3. Select the flash and download the jic into flash
  4. Make sure the MSEL is AS and than reset the board.
