RiscFree IDE Installation

With the latest Quartus Prime Pro release, the RiscFree IDE does not show in the Start menu after installation and as such, I cannot access it. Twice now I have uninstalled and reinstalled with system restarts but to no avail.

You shouldn't be starting it from the Start menu.  Open the Nios V command shell and enter "riscfree".  This sets up the environment correctly.

Since it used to appear in the Start menu for previous versions of Quartus just like the DSP Builder or the PTC, was it removed intentionally

Not sure.  I never started it from the Start menu because the command shell was always required for Nios II as well.

The software packages that have their own setup files eg the Advanced Link Analyzer or even the Questa packages, once installed used to have their shortcuts and uninstallation shortcuts appear in the Start menu and I thought that was good to at least show what add on software packages you have. With the newest release, the RiscFree IDE doesn't which I interpreted as a problem with the installation, not that it has to do anything with how the software runs. It does however start from the nios v shell as you said.

Hi,

I don't see any issue after downloading and installing.

I have followed below steps.

  1. Downloaded the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Programmer and Tools v25.1 & RiscFree IDE v25.1 with this link-https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/software-kit/851653/intel-quartus-prime-pro-edition-design-software-version-25-1-for-windows.html
  2. Installed the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Programmer and Tools v25.1
  3. Installed the RiscFree IDE 25.1
  4. Opened the RiscFree IDE 25.1 from the windows 11 start menu and its working.

Regards

I am running Windows 10. I would be interested to know if anyone else running this OS has the same issue.

I'm on Win 10 and it's not in the Start menu so it's weird it's in Win 11.  But as I mentioned, you're not really supposed to even be starting it from the Start menu anyway.

Hi @Njoroge,

Greetings, the observed behavior is as mention where in Windows 10 the RiscFree IDE are no longer in the Start Menu where you can launch it from the exe. However as sstrell mention you can still launch it via the shell command in command prompt.

Apologies for the inconvenient, however please do let us know if there is any follow issues where it is blocking you from launching or gating your development and we would be more than happy to look into it.

Hope that clarify
