COM Surrogate error after Intel Unite Client installation

Dear Support Team,

i have a Problem after the Intel Unite Client installation.

With Intel Unte installed everytime i open the Windows Start menu i get a COM Surrogate error.

After the uninstall of Intel Unite the error is gone.

But i need to deploy the App to the Employee.

Any ideas for me?

The System is a Dell Precision 5510.

Windows 10 1703

On this System i can see the Options for a direct connection to my System.

My Test System a Dell XPS 13 dont't show this Option.

The XPS System has a Killer Wlan NIC.

But it works without the Error. ;-)

Thanks, Dirk

Hello dmaihoefer,

Thank you for contacting the Intel community.

I'm sorry about this error you get when you have the Intel® Unite app installed.

In this case, uninstall the Intel Unite Client from the machine completely, then access the Intel® unite hub on the machine you have installed and you will be able to find a link where you can download the latest Intel® Unite app, try reinstalling that one.

Also make sure you have Windows® updated to the latest updates available and to update the BIOS on your system and all the drivers from your computer manufacturer website.

There is some troubleshooting at the following link that you may want to try:

Please let me know how it goes.

Hello Ivan,

after a long day of test, i can give you a quick Report.

If i start the Edge Browser it comes to the same Error.

I have done the test on more Notbooks.

All Notebooks have the latest Bios and the latest manufacturer drivers are installed.

Dell XPS 13 9360 No Error Windows 10 Pro

Dell XPS 15 9550 No Error Windows 10 Pro

Dell XPS 15 9560 No Error Windows 10 Pro

Dell Precision 5510 Error Windows 10 Enterprise

Dell Precision 5510 Error Windows 10 Enterprise

MS Surface 3 Pro No Error Windows 10 Pro

Lenovo T430s No Error Windows 10 Pro

Lenovo T450 Error Windows 10 Enterprise No Error after driver updates

Lenovo T470s No Error Windows 10 Pro

Lenovo L560 Error Windows 10 Enterprise

On this List i can see that all effected Systems are Enterprise Edition.

Just a coincidence?

With the Lenovo L560 System i can do test. I will be install a fresh Windows 10 Pro in the next days.

The Unite App is downloaded via the Keyserver/downlad link.

Intel Unite Client Version: 3.0.43.48

My ideas: a driver problem or now, a problem with the Edition?

I am alone with the Problem?

ERROR REPORTING:

i can reproduce the Error on a Test System(Hyper-V VM).

-Install Windows 10 with 1607 Enterprise Media de-de.

-Update the System via Windows Update to Version 1703.

-Install intel Unite via keyserver/download.

-reboot

-open Start Menu

Error is popping up!

--------------------------------

Second VM on the same Hyper-V Server:

-Install Windows 10 with 1607 Pro Media de-de.

-Update the System via Windows Update to Version 1703.

-Install intel Unite via keyserver/download.

-reboot

-open Start Menu

No Error

------------------------------

Can a Intel Developer take a Look on this Problem?

We have no other Problem with the Windows 10 Enterprise Notebooks.

Best regards,

Dirk

The Test with a Windows 10 Enterprise 1703 install Medium shows a bigger Problem.

After the Intel Unite installation the System is not booting up.

The automatic reboot starts into the Windows Repair Modus. :-(

I repeat the Test 2 times. I can't belive it. ;-)

The Test was made with a Windows 10 64Bit Enterprise ISO Image from the Microsoft Partner Portal.

Can anybody confirm my Tests?

Thanks, Dirk

Is anyone else still having the Com Surrogate crash with Windows 10 1703 when the Intel Unite client is installed? The errors started popping up for me on a clean installation of Windows 10 1703 (15063.540) with Intel Unite Client 3.1.45.26 (even with the client not running). My Intel graphics driver is "Intel HD Graphics Family" version 20.19.15.4531 (this is an HP Revolve 810 G2).

Thank you!

Hello mzocher,

After doing some further review, the only systems validated to work with the Intel® Unite app can be found here:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/unite/intel-unite-overview.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/unite/intel-unite-overview.html

Unfortunately the HP Revolve 810 G2 is not validated to work with the Intel® Unite app, even though it has vPro the app will not work, it will work only with the computers you can see at the link I posted.

I'm sorry this is not the answer you expected to see but this is the reality with this system.

Best wishes,

Ivan U.

Ivan, I think there's a little bit of confusion here. I'm talking about the Intel Unite Client, not the Intel Unite Hub. The link you provided listed the supported devices for the Intel Unite Hub software.

According to Intel's documentation at https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/software/software-applications/Intel_Unite_Enterprise_Deployment.pdf https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/software/software-applications/Intel_Unite_Enterprise_Deployme… , the only requirements for the Intel Unite Client are:

  • Microsoft Windows 7 SP1, 8.1 or 10 (32 bit and 64 bit)
  • Recommended latest patch level
  • Microsoft .NET 4.5 or greater
  • OS X* 10.10.5 and greater
  • iOS 9.3 or higher
  • Wired or wireless network connection

Hello mzocher,

I'm sorry for the misunderstood.

The problem with COM Surrogate is probably caused because of codecs and other COM components installed, it didn't load some codecs.

Did you try installing the one from the Intel download center? This version solved this problem for dmaihoefer, please try downloading the app again here:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25280/Intel-Unite-app https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25280/Intel-Unite-app

Uninstall the one you have installed and install this version from the download center.
