Hi,
as I know, base frequency of Intel i7-13620H is 2.4 Ghz,
but in my laptop Asus B3405CVA I can see 1.7 Ghz only.
What could be the reason?

Hello Vassily,
Thank you for reaching out via Intel Community.
The Intel® Core™ i7-13620H has a base speed of 2.4 GHz, but it’s normal to see a lower number like 1.7 GHz on your laptop. The speed can change depending on what your laptop is doing and how it manages power or heat.
This behavior is normal and doesn’t indicate a problem with your processor.
However, to further investigate this concern, kindly provide the following details:
- When you observed the CPU speed at 1.7 GHz, what task or activity was your system performing?
- Have you checked the CPU speed while running any applications or performing heavier tasks?
If you have any other questions, please let us know.
Regards,
John M.

Hello John,
Thank you for your response.
Answering your question:
Intel Processor Identification Utility always displays CPU Base Speed 1.7 GHz,
but when I push arrow «Explore more about this processor», it displays CPU speed that is higher and changes every second
(attached picture 336.jpg, no background tasks launched)
Just in case I also tried AIDA64 utility, it displayed 1.7 GHz as well (attached screenshot aida.jpg)
And one more embarassing moment: Intel Processor Identification Utility displayed higher base CPU speed on obsolete notebooks (attached pictures 7500U.jpg, 12650H.jpg).
If I can do more for further investigation, please let me know.

Vassily

Hello Vassily,
Thank you for providing the screenshots for reference.
To help isolate the issue, I highly recommend installing the Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU) to check for any signs of thermal throttling. You may also try the following steps:
- Change your system’s power option.
- Load the BIOS to default settings or update it to the latest version.
- Install the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool (Intel® PDT) and run it to verify the functionality of your processor.
Once done and if issue persist please let me know so I may investigate this further.

Sure,
I installed XTU, thermal throttling sometimes happens during benchmarking (screenshot below)
I also installed PDT, test passed (screenshot below as well).
I also updated BIOS.
One curious moment. When after these tests I launched Intel Processor Identification Utility, it displayed Reported CPU speed (not Base CPU speed like before).
But after rebooting the notebook this Utility displays CPU Base Speed 1.7 GHz again.
I will be glad to help you in future investigation.

Hello Vassily,
Thank you for patiently waiting. As the next step, please try setting your system’s power option to Performance mode and observe if the issue continues. This setting helps ensure that your processor and other components are running at their optimal performance levels, which can sometimes resolve performance-related concerns.
If the issue still persists after making this change, kindly check for any available updates, particularly for Windows and your OEM drivers (such as chipset, BIOS, and graphics drivers). Outdated system components or power management settings can sometimes cause unexpected behavior or limit system performance.
Once you’ve completed these steps, please monitor your system and let me know the results. This information will help us determine the next best course of action to fully resolve your concern.
Regards,
John M.

Hello John,
I installed all possible updates (Windows, drivers, BIOS) and set Performance mode as you recommended.
Unfortunately, all tools still displays 1.7 GHz.
Seems, this value 1.7 is fixed somewhere inside CPU and does not depend on drivers and
system settings. Is it possible?
Anyway, I am ready to follow your further recommendations )

Hello Vassily,
Thank you for your response and for the update regarding the BIOS issue. The next step I recommend is to contact your OEM directly to raise the concern about the drivers, as they will be in the best position to assist with this matter.
There’s no need to apologize I’m here to help guide you through isolating the issue.
Since your OEM will be assisting you with the driver-related bugs, I’ll proceed with closing this thread. Thank you for your cooperation and patience throughout the process.
Wishing you a great day ahead.

Hello John,
ASUS released new BIOS, I updated in and System reported correct frequency, 2.4GHz.
But I met another problem: Intel identification utility stopped working. What could be the reason?
