Intel Media SDK fails to install on Windows 10 Pro

Good day,

Hope someone can assist - I downloaded the Intel Media SDK 2021R1 and try to install it. The installer pops up a splash screen, then starts the read the configuration files, the splash screen disappears, leaving only a progress bar on the screen and then the application exists without installing anything or providing any error messages.

According to Intel Driver Support assistant all Intel drivers and software are up to date.

System: Intel Core i7-8700K with 32GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Build 21H2 (10.0.19044) with adequate (>100 GB of storage)

Any advice?

Thank you,

Johan

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities. As per the Media SDK system requirements(https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/download/media-sdk-windows-release-notes.html), Windows 10 Pro isn't mentioned in the supported operating systems list. Could you please try installing Intel Media SDK on any supported operating systems mentioned in this list and see if the issue still persists?

Regards,

Alekhya

Thank you, Alekhya, for the answer.

Must admit that I am a little confused - the software requirements list Windows 10. When one looks at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compare-windows-10-home-vs-pro, for example, the difference is only in capabilities switched on by having the higher-level license. It is fundamentally a Windows 10 64-bit system.

I have in fact installed Media SDK (the 2018 version) on this system before, but after an unfortunate update event, I re-installed the operating system and upgraded to Visual Studio 2022. Intel oneAPI base toolkit installed effortlessly in case it may help.

We have some older systems that utilize Media SDK and I understand that oneVPL also utilize Media SDK for these architectures. It would be great to do the Media SDK development work on the same system and code base.

Is there perhaps a install log file one can look into to see if any errors are reported?

Thank you again for the response, Alekya!

Hi,

We apologize for the confusion caused. Could you please try downloading a new Media SDK installer and see if the issue still persists? If it doesn't work, please follow the below workaround:

1) You can clone this Media SDK git repo: https://github.com/Intel-Media-SDK/MediaSDK

2) As mentioned in the intel-MSDK git repo, in order to build any sample on Windows, we need Visual Studio 2017.(https://github.com/Intel-Media-SDK/MediaSDK#system-requirements)

3) Open AllBuild.sln file with Visual Studio 2017 & Build the samples.

Alekhya
