Hi all, i have a dell Raid server that i mostly use to host 2 or 3 game private servers on, in my home. Mostly it's just a few of us here on LAN, but sometime's we might have 1 or 2 friends play from outside our network. Most of the time were only on one game "instance" while the other 2 game servers are running at the same time idle, but sometimes the kids might play on one while me and the wife or friends are on the other game. We also use it here and there to do our normal PC backups to it as well from time to time.
I currently have a PowerEdge T420, 64 bit, windows server 2022 using a Dell 03015M motherboard in it with pair of Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2430 0 @ 2.20GHz, 2201 Mhz, 6 Cores, 12 Logical Processors, and 96 GB Ram, and 8- 4 TB SSD's in raid config, plus the main 4 TB with just windows on it.
We started a new game and its mostly single core driving using Unreal Engine 4, dont know if that matters, but we get random spikes that causes "pause" lag, like it cant process fast enough at times. I tried to force the 2 of 3 games into its own 1 core "as it only uses it anyways", using lasso, but it still does it, but not as bad. "just so other processes were not sharing it". Its CPU spike, so id assume the 2.20 GHZ just cant slightly keep up, at times.
Can i upgrade to a E5-2470 V2, 3.20 GHZ processor to maybe counter some of this? Or will it not work for this motherboard since i have a series 1- 2430 now?
What do you suggest? Go back to a normal, windows 11 ATX with some fast single thread killing CPU? Or am i looking at a whole new server style build to try and keep the raid layout but get better single core performance? Or just a newer board that would fit my tower and new CPU. I currently dont have a huge stash of cash for a whole new build. NOTE: I will learn linux someday, lol.

You need to consult with dell as to which processors are supported by THEIR bios.

Thanks ill do that. I guess a brain fart made me think dell and intel were part of one when i went to write this. lol
