This video by Buildzoid demonstrates that the 0x129 microcode doesn't start working until fully booted into Windows. I don't use Windows. I haven't so much as touched it in years. It's critical that I know whether or not this microcode actually fixes things for me, because I've held off on an RMA until now specifically because I didn't want to simply fry the replacement. Again.
edit: Buildzoid does great work, but he rambles, talks slowly, and doesn't edit his videos. So later on it is clear that it is the motherboard.

Hello gcgc,
Thank you for posting in the community!
Regarding to your concern if the new Microcode 0x129 is also available for Linux OS, it is best if you try to contact your motherboard manufacturer if there are available Microcode 0x129 updates for users that are using Linux OS.
Intel has released a production Microcode update 0x129 to OEM/ODM customers. Intel is working with its partners to ensure timely validation of the BIOS update for systems currently in service. To be effective, the Microcode 0x129 MUST be loaded via BIOS update. Please contact your system or motherboard manufacturer for the BIOS updates containing this Microcode update 0x129.
Best regards,
