I have an HP Omen 17 laptop with an i7-12700H that I bought in 2022. I've always been very careful with temperatures, so I had my power plan configured with the processor's maximum state set to 90% and Turbo Boost disabled. Everything used to run fine - temperatures stayed around 70°C even in demanding games with good performance.
However, after some recent updates, I noticed that
my temperatures started reaching up to 95°-100°C. Now, when I try to change the processor's maximum state or disable Turbo Boost, nothing happens at all. It seems like something its having priority over the power settings and not having control over that its killing my pc.
Does anyone know how I can regain control over my temperatures? Is there some option or driver that I can disable so it let me control the power options? Thank u

Hello Cerverous,
Thank you for posting in our Community.
I understand that you are having overheating issues with your HP Omen 17 laptop. To help me narrow down the cause and find a solution, could you please provide a bit more information:
- Does the overheating issue persist even when the laptop is sitting idle?
- Could you specify which recent system updates were made, given that you indicated the overheating started following those updates?
- Besides adjusting the processor's maximum state or disabling turbo boost, what other troubleshooting steps have you tried to resolve the issue?
Additionally, could you please run and provide the System Support Utility (SSU) logs from your system? Please refer to this link for the steps: How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows*
Once I have this information, I will be glad to guide you on the best next steps and determine what can be handled. If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you.
Best regards,

There is no overheating while the system is idle. Occasionally, the temperature briefly reaches around 70°C, but I believe this is within a normal range.
I’m not completely sure which update may have caused this behavior, but I suspect that one of them might have restricted undervolting through the power options, or that the system is now prioritizing other configurations, since my previous settings no longer seem to have any effect.
I’ve always taken great care of the laptop: the fans are clean, the thermal paste is new (and working properly, as the GPU is not overheating), the laptop is elevated off the desk for better airflow, and everything is in good condition.
I’ve attached the SSU system logs in case they help.

Hello Cerverous,
Thank you for sharing the SSU file and responding to my questions. If possible, could you attempt the following steps to potentially fix the issue:
- See if you can load the default BIOS settings for your system.
- Try installing the latest BIOS and Windows 11 updates if issue still persists.
Please try our Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool check the stability of your processor. You may visit this link to get the tool Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool
Here is a short guide for using the tool:
- Following installation, Intel® PDT automatically starts testing your processor using default configuration settings. Two windows may appear to indicate the test is running.
- When testing concludes, Intel® PDT will present the results as either PASS or FAIL.
- You can review or save the test results following each test by clicking File > View Results File, then selecting File > Save As to save to any desired location.
Please let me know if these recommendation works for you. You can try looking at these articles below in cases it helps with your concern.
Best regards,
Stanley B.
