I bought a new HP Desktop e9107c about 3 months ago and I want to replace the existing CPU with this new Q9400.
Problem is that the fan that comes with the new CPU does not fit into the holes on the motherboard (Pegatron IPIEL-LA3).
I was wondering if I could use the existing fan with the new CPU and not damage the CPU. The existing fan is a bigger one so this should work but worried about long term effect if the fan is not up to par.
TIA.

Yes, I did. It's been almost 1 month and so far so good.
Thank you
