I have just setup a new system at the beginning of September.
I encountered lots of random BSOD - Blue Screen Of Death.
And this happens whenever I startup the system the first time for the day.
I believe this is a so-called "cold boot" issue.
Below are some specs before I proceed to further explain the issue.
My Memory Specs:
CMX4GX3M2A1600C7
Speed Rating: PC3-12800 Tested
Speed: 1600Mhz Size: 4GB Kit (2 x 2GB)
Tested Latency: 7-8-7-20
Tested Voltage: 1.65
Performance Profile: XMP
SPD Speed: 1333Mhz
SPD Latency: 7-7-7-20
My System Spec:
EVGA P55 SLi (132-LF-E655-KR)
EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SuperClocked 768MB (768-P3-1362-KR)
CMX4GX3M2A1600C7 x 2 (Total 4 x 2G = 8GB)
Seasonic M12II-620watt
OS is Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate.
My System settings:
CPU: Default 2.93GHz (133x22) with Intel Speedstep enabled and Intel Turbo Boost enabled.
DRAM: 1600MHz. 7-8-7-20-2T @ 1.65Volt XMP Profile
I was hit by the BSOD in every cold boot. And I did some test on my system to verify if any there were any faulty hardware.
Some Test result:
- individual mem test passed.
- dual mem test passed.
- dual x 2 mem test passed.
Test done are:
- 25 passes run for IntelBurnTest with MAXIMUM settings, the 4-up passed.
- 30++ passes with Prime95 overnight. With the 4-up.
- 10++ passes with MEMTEST 4.10
But failed with BSOD when cold boot after 10hrs shutdown.
It looks like its really a cold boot issue. The system an pass all test with no errors but fails at cold boot.
Setting used during the above test:
i7-870, 2.93GHz (default 133 x 22)
Intel speedstep enabled.
Intel Turbo Boost enabled.
Corsair RAM at 7-8-7-20 2T
with XMP Profile - Auto
DRAM Voltage manual @ 1.65v
VTT manual @ 1.2v
Vcore mauanl @ 1.2v
Vdroop disabled.
The CPU-Z shows the CPU speed was running at a range of 3.2~3.59GHz with the Intel Turbo Boost enabled.
Witht the Intel Turbo Boost disabled, the speed stays at 2.93GHz.
There may be a chance that the CPU did some OC here as it passed the test, but just don't want to OC during cold boot?
Everything works fine after the CPU "warm-up". So, is the an issue with the CPU?
I hope anyone with similar or same issue can advise. thanks.

Hello;
The maximum memory voltage supported by the i7-870, is 1.5 volts and the memory that you are using is 1.65 volts, as first recommendation you try memory with a lower voltage
You can find more information on the memory supported for your processor here:
