Hi
I purchased new processor, but I can't succesfully install it.
New Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E8400 Freq.: 3 GHz
My Mothership: Gateway, Intel(Council Buffs) 945G Viiv motherboard (Socket: LGA775)
I followed the instructions and installed it correctly. However, when I tried to start my computer I had:
- screen blackout (monitor reamined turned off).
- fan on the processor ran faster all the time.
I installed it three times with the same results.
In addition, my old processor works well (Intel Core 2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz 1.80 GHz).
I have no clue why my new processor fails. Can anyone help me? Thanks.
Rest of my system:
Model: Gateway GT5438
Memory: 3070 MB
System: 32-bit Windows Vista
Graphic Card: Invidia GF 9800 GX2

This does not answer your query directly but I guess it will help.
Intel hosts live chat event with their experts where people can discuss Intel products technologies. The next event will be held around their core processors. I think that it will be a good platform to ask this or any other question. The next event is on 26th March at 9:30 am GMT. More info at

You certinally need to ensure you have the latest BIOS, the 945G chipset only supports 1066Mhz FSB processors, so if it does work it would only work at 2.4Ghz.
You may be best to return it and get something like a E7500, E6500.
