Upgrade from Ubuntu 23.10 to 24.04 seems to have bricked my system

I have run Ubuntu on my IntelNUC11PAH quite happily and successfully for many years. Today I upgraded from 23.10 to 24.04. Everything went well and then I was asked to restart the machine. However it would not boot...not even to a boot window...It just showed the NUC screen for a few seconds and then shut down. a) is my machine bricked b) how can I fix this if it is not bricked?

My system is an Intel NUC11PAH. I cannot even boot to the boot screen...I just get the NUC logo and then it just dies. Have I bricked my machine?

It sounds like your Intel NUC might not be completely bricked, but it's in a state where it cannot proceed with the boot process. Here are several steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Power Cycle the NUC

  • Disconnect the power cable.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cable and try to boot again.

2. Access the BIOS

  • Turn on the NUC and immediately press F2 repeatedly to enter the BIOS setup. If you can't access the BIOS, try the following:
    • Disconnect all peripheral devices (USB drives, external monitors, etc.) and try again.
    • Try connecting to a different monitor or using a different HDMI/DisplayPort cable.

All sorted...thank goodness for ChatGPT4o
